There’s one secret about José that most people don’t know - he’s actually very funny, but he never shows it on his face (laughs).

I remember one game while we were at Chelsea. We were winning 2-0 at half-time against Man city. He walked into the dressing room frowning, and everyone was confused, including me. He shouted at us about the mistakes we made.

Then in the second half, he signalled me at the touchline, laughed, and told me to encourage the players and seal the game with one more goal. We went on to win.

Look, I respect José a lot. He’s not just a coach - he’s a real manager who takes full responsibility. During his time at Chelsea, we never gave excuses to Abramovich. We had to win, injury or no injury.

I love him so much, and he still checks up on me from time to time. He was one of my best coaches ever. Even recently, when he was linked with Madrid, he jokingly told me he needs me there (laughs). He’s always funny like that.
