I am pleased to announce a collaboration agreement with the Society of Petroleum Engineers International Africa (SPE Africa), marking a significant step toward strengthening technical collaboration, knowledge transfer and innovation across Africa’s energy industry.
The agreement formalizes a strategic partnership between one of Africa’s leading energy advocacy organizations and a globally recognized technical authority with more than 127,000 members across 145 countries. Through the collaboration, SPE Africa will provide technical expertise, advisory support and industry insight to strengthen AEC’s growing portfolio of conferences, strategic initiatives and policy-driven engagements.
At a time when Africa is working to accelerate energy development, attract investment and navigate an increasingly complex global energy landscape, the partnership underscores the importance of technical excellence in delivering sustainable, bankable and efficiently executed energy projects across the continent.
The partnership further reflects a shared commitment to talent development and capacity building within Africa’s energy sector. By leveraging SPE Africa’s extensive student and young professional networks, the collaboration will expand opportunities for early-career engineers to engage with industry leaders, gain exposure to real-world technical challenges and support the advancement of STEM education across the continent. This focus on nurturing the next generation of engineers, especially women, is seen as critical to sustaining long-term growth, innovation and technical excellence in Africa’s energy industry.
"By bringing SPE Africa’s global technical expertise into closer alignment with the Chamber’s platforms and advocacy, we are ensuring that Africa is not only attracting investment, but also delivering projects that are efficient, competitive and built to last. This collaboration will strengthen the quality of technical dialogue across the industry while advancing capacity building and STEM development, creating space where innovation, practical solutions and meaningful collaboration can move the sector forward,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber.
“SPE Africa is proud to partner with the African Energy Chamber to support the advancement of Africa’s energy sector through technical excellence and professional collaboration. By connecting our global expertise with AEC’s influential platforms, we are creating new opportunities to strengthen capacity, share knowledge and accelerate innovation,” said Dr. Riverson Oppong, PhD. , President of SPE Africa.
A strong energy sector is built on more than resources and investment—it requires technical expertise, innovation and a highly skilled workforce.
The strategic partnership between SPE Africa and the African Energy Chamber represents an important commitment to advancing technical excellence across Africa’s energy industry. By strengthening collaboration between engineers, technical specialists, industry leaders and energy professionals, the agreement aims to promote knowledge sharing, professional development and capacity building throughout the continent.
As Africa pursues ambitious energy goals, developing local talent and fostering technical leadership will be critical to improving operational performance, accelerating project delivery and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the sector.
Through greater industry collaboration and skills development, Africa is laying the foundation for a more competitive, innovative and resilient energy future.

Angola’s energy story is far from over. It is evolving.
In Crude Oil: Power, Turnaround, and Transformation in Angola, @nj_ayuk’s Chapter 9, “Angola’s Current Outlook: Resilience, Refining, and Renewed Interests,” explores how the country is strengthening its position as one of Africa’s most important energy producers while laying the foundation for long-term economic growth.
As Mr. Ayuk writes, #Angola remains “a real exporter,” with oil and gas contributing more than 90% of export revenues and approximately 30% of GDP. At a time when African exports, including crude oil, #LNG and coal, account for more than 20% of European energy imports, #Angola’s role in global energy security has never been more significant.
The chapter examines how strategic reforms, refining expansion, continued upstream investment and renewed international interest are helping Angola navigate market shifts while maintaining its status as a leading energy powerhouse. It is a story of resilience, pragmatic policymaking and a nation determined to maximize the value of its natural resources.
Discover how resilience, refining capacity and renewed investor confidence are shaping #Angola’s next chapter in Crude Oil: Power, Turnaround, and Transformation in Angola.

#Angola’s approach to local content demonstrates how strategic policy can transform an oil and gas industry into a broader engine for economic growth.
Since updating its local content framework in 2020, #Angola has expanded opportunities for domestic businesses across the entire energy value chain, ensuring that the benefits of oil and gas development extend far beyond the industry itself. By encouraging greater participation from local suppliers, service providers and financial institutions, the country has strengthened domestic capacity while creating new avenues for investment and job creation.
The result is a positive cycle of growth: stronger local companies, increased access to financing through Angolan banks and greater resilience across the national economy. #Angola’s experience offers a compelling example of how local content can serve as a strategic pillar for sustainable energy development and long-term prosperity.

Speaking on Venezuela’s energy sector, NJ Ayuk emphasized the importance of re-engaging with the country, noting that recent reforms represent a major shift in its investment landscape.
He highlighted the role of Venezuela’s leadership under Delcy Rodríguez, describing her as a strong reform driver behind sweeping legislative changes aimed at opening the hydrocarbons sector to greater private participation. He added that the reforms have already attracted interest from major international energy companies, including Eni, TotalEnergies, and ExxonMobil, signalling renewed global confidence in Venezuela’s oil and gas industry.
Speaking about his latest book Crude Oil: Power, Turnaround, and Transformation in Angola, NJ Ayuk highlighted major transformation lessons for Nigeria, noting that while Nigeria remains Africa’s largest economy, Angola offers a strong example of successful reform.
He described Angola’s experience as a “masterclass” in turning around its energy sector, emphasizing that the country has positioned itself as a global benchmark for reform. He further noted that these achievements were driven largely by domestic leadership and effort, rather than external assistance.
Reflecting on the progress of marginal gas field developments across the continent, @nj_ayuk underscored the significance of these projects, noting that Africa’s potential is far greater than commonly perceived.
He cautioned that excessive red tape around new discoveries is slowing progress and could worsen energy poverty across the continent. He also pointed to positive momentum, highlighting @exxonmobil's advancement on the Rovuma project in Mozambique as a key example of continued investment in African gas development.
Reflecting on the African Energy Chamber (AEC)’s working visit to the Republic of the Congo, @nj_ayuk shared insights during a live interview on ARISE News.
He noted his positive impression of the country’s workforce, highlighting that Congolese workers are actively engaged across operations and that there is a clear commitment to investing in local talent—an approach he said left a strong impression during the visit.
