Our General Curator and Zoo Veterinarian determined that Raya wouldn’t be able care for her cub, so the difficult decision was made to hand-rear. At 35 days old, Big Red seems to be healthy and growing normally. Our fingers and toes are crossed that he continues to thrive!

We have an exciting announcement! Our red panda, Raya, who was born at the Zoo in 2021, gave birth on June 13!

Sadly, several cubs didn’t survive, which isn’t unusual—their mortality rate is nearly 50% in the first year. We are cautiously optimistic about the surviving male!

UPDATE: The WSR-88D KIWX radar is out of order and will remain down through the holiday weekend. Parts are on order. The return to service is estimated to be Tuesday, July 7th. With storms in the forecast this weekend, neighboring radars KIND, KGRR, and KLOT can be used instead.
