The Met Office have released rainfall maps for April. Their anomaly map, which shows the difference from the 1991 - 2020 average, the south and east had under a 1/3 of the average. This follows a dry March with under 75% . Not good news for young, developing #truffles.

“We’ve found lots of truffles, do you want to buy them?” said the excited caller. “Are they white inside?” I tentatively asked before explaining about their seasons and when they were good. Photos showed not truffles but cyclamen tubers! I hope replanting saves them!

The first truffle find of this year reported to us was found on 5 April in a garden near Oxford. The finder was digging and said he had dug deeply the area to relocate a hazel tree (not inoculated) in April 2024. Sadly they are unripe.
