It was great to join our future Lieutenant Gov Ben Schierer in Rochester to see his son play at Kathy's Pub on Friday night — at nearly 2 AM! After our endorsement! Perfect way to start the campaign together.
Thanks to a handful of anti-hunger champions from both parties in the #mnleg and the leadership in particular of Sen. @epmurphymn, MN's food banks and food shelves will receive another one-time $ infusion this year. Still, permanent support is needed given demand. We'll be back!
Today was a hard day.
Mike Moyski and Jackie Flavin sat before my committee this morning and described what it was like to lose their daughter Harper in the Annunciation shooting last August.
They asked for two minutes of silence so we could try to imagine (even a fraction of) what their community experienced that day.
I've heard many testimonies in my career, but I will never forget those two minutes.
And when they were over, we got to work.
As Chair of the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee, I moved four gun violence prevention bills forward, including the assault weapons and high-capacity magazine ban authored by Sen. Zaynab Mohamed in direct response to the Annunciation shooting.
I also advanced multiple bills I authored myself, including a public awareness campaign for the red flag law I wrote and passed two years ago, which has now been used more than 400 times across Minnesota to separate firearms from people in crisis.
I'm never going to stop fighting until we've done everything in our power to ensure no other family goes through what the families of Annunciation have.
They, and every family impacted by gun violence, deserves our very best.
Thanks for your unwavering leadership, @RonLatzMN, for our neighbors across Minnesota. The Senate’s swift action on rental assistance will means people can stay in their homes and afford their lives.
Operation Metro Surge has put thousands of Minnesota families at risk of losing their homes.
That’s why, as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I immediately arranged for an expedited hearing on SF3596 emergency rental assistance.
We heard it the same day – Wednesday, 3/4/26 – it was passed to us by the Tax Committee and we sent it to the Finance Committee later the same day. This is extraordinary speed for a bill.
I also authored an amendment extending the eviction notice period from 14 to 30 days under state law for the duration of the program — giving families the time they need to get help before losing their homes.
My support for this proposal was immediate and my commitment is unwavering. I’m proud to stand with our neighbors during this time.
MS NOW confirms: Trump conditioned releasing funding for the Gateway infrastructure project on whether Leader Schumer would support renaming Washington-Dulles International Airport and Penn Station after Trump.
For those of us working to stop fraud and not just talking about it, this is a staggering loss for the pursuit of justice.
More than red flags here. The incompetence of the Trump Administration is on full display.
It’s hard to put into words how extraordinary it is that a U.S. Attorney’s Office would be down 75% in its number of prosecutors. When I was a federal prosecutor, we would receive hundreds of applications when we had a single vacancy. People were dying to come work in our office.
Ellison: "The real problem with the case is not that the judge didn't understand the gravity or facts. I'm sure she understands both. The problem is there is no legal precedent for this. We've never seen a moment in American history where through force of arms, a federal administration was trying to bully a state into submission. The problem with law is it's based on precedent."
BREAKING: @TaylorRehmetTX just FLIPPED Texas’ SD-9!
He will be a powerful voice for working Texans as he fights for public school funding, better access to housing and health care, and a brighter future for all.
District Court Judge grants AG Ellison, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and Hennepin County Attorney’s Office a temporary restraining order blocking the Trump administration from from “destroying or altering evidence” related to shooting of Alex Pretti.
It is impossible not to feel enraged in this horrible moment. The grief at the loss of another Minnesotan life is deep. But it will not deter me.
Minnesota lives, freedom, and peaceful existence are being taken by a violent, federal force. I will not back down.
