When the Cornell story broke, I clicked through about 20 stories trying to find the actual court documents, or even just the case name and location, to read things for myself. This is so useful, but also, JUST PUT THEM IN YOUR STORIES. https://t.co/0T35kCs3Ch
44 years ago today, Pat Summerall and John Madden called a Division-III college football game.
Wittenberg vs. Baldwin-Wallace
October 3, 1982
During the fall of '82, in the second week of the NFLPA's 57-day players' strike, CBS needed to get creative with its Sunday afternoon programming.
So on October 3, the network sent its top NFL broadcast team of Pat Summerall and John Madden to Springfield, Ohio to call Division-III Wittenberg's game against its rival Baldwin-Wallace — each school with an enrollment then of about 2,000 students.
Three other NFL on CBS broadcast teams were also assigned to call Division-III games that weekend.
Wittenberg, Baldwin-Wallace, and the Ohio Athletic Conference were each paid $10,000 for the game.
The video includes the CBS open and pregame introduction by Pat and John, the first several minutes of the game, and select highlights from this historic CBS broadcast.
A very rare and fascinating telecast — and quite a thrill for those players, coaches, students, and communities.
The Cornell Daily Sun breaks some news — Cornell Police made a drug-related arrest at the Chi Phi house the night *before* the alleged assault took place. Drug violations can result in immediate interim suspension, but that doesn’t seem to have happened.

Thanks to all who donated and/or shared. Sadly, Daryl passed away late last night. I know these are tough times for everyone, but if you can please help his wife and two kids, it would mean the world.
One of my best friends, Daryl Presgraves, is battling cancer. Daryl's a former @alligatorSports columnist & Tampa Tribune sportswriter who's spent his life helping others. Now his family needs our help. Please consider donating or sharing: https://t.co/k8jg7de6RL ❤️ #UF#Gators
“And with The Assembly in North Carolina, we filed an online notice of intent to open a private school at Ponysaurus Brewing Co. in Durham, while perched on its metal bar stools, eyeing glasses of a crisp kolsch.”
New: We’re reporters, not teachers. We have no business running a private school. But to show you just how easy it is to start one, we decided to test the process ourselves. https://t.co/5EOWc1UwPd
Journalists! Do you want access to more than 100 sources in elections: cybersecurity, former officials, lawyers, academics? Do you want to ask them on the record questions and get answers for your stories? DO YOU WANT ALL OF THAT FOR FREE?!
GOOD NEWS.
Colorado GOP nominee for governor, Victor Marx, laughs as he recounts a violent fight with his wife:
"I remember grabbing her, slamming her into our front door. She bent over and started crying."
I think this is a major problem beyond Cornell: "...this task force really approaches sexual assault and misconduct as an educational problem rather than safety issue."
NEW: I analyzed seven years of Cornell's sexual violence case data. Expulsions are very rare.
1,216 reports of sexual assault, DV and stalking from 2018-2024.
162 formal investigations.
51 findings of fault.
14 suspensions.
7 expulsions or dismissals. https://t.co/yL3abPPQHr
