The lights don't stay on by accident.
Behind the scenes, Evergy's Distribution System Operations (DSO) team monitors the electric grid around the clock, helping maintain system reliability.
Using advanced smart grid technology and real-time system data, operators can identify issues, coordinate resources, and in some cases restore power remotely before crews even arrive on site.
It's all part of keeping our communities powered and putting safety first every step of the way.
You may never see them, but they're always working behind the scenes.
Our Distribution System Operations team monitors the grid 24/7, helping coordinate outage response, dispatch crews, and restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Using advanced tools and real-time system data, they're often able to pinpoint issues before crews even arrive on site.

Evergy crews continue making significant progress restoring power following Sunday evening's severe storms.
As of 4:30 p.m. Monday, about 2,800 customers remain without power. Evergy's Kansas City and contractor crews have been joined by crews from across our service territory to help speed restoration efforts.
Damage assessment teams have identified extensive impacts across the area, including more than 60 broken power poles, among them several transmission poles. Crews will continue working around the clock until everyone is back on.
Restoration work in the Leavenworth area and Johnson County is expected to be complete by early this evening. In the Lee's Summit, Belton and St. Joseph areas, we estimate power will be restored overnight. While most outages in the metro area and South Kansas City will be restored tonight, some will extend into Tuesday morning.
If you see a downed power line, stay at least 30 feet away and assume it is energized. Call 911 in an emergency, then report it to Evergy. You can report an outage and view the outage map by downloading the Evergy mobile app: https://t.co/jJF1nXCfbg

Evergy crews continue working to restore power after a powerful storm moved through the Kansas City metro area Sunday evening. Approximately 46,000 customers experienced outages as a result of the storm, with peak outages reaching nearly 40,000 customers at one time. As of 9 a.m. this morning, nearly 90% of impacted customers have been restored, with approximately 4,300 customers still without power.
The storm produced wind gusts of up to 80 mph, ping pong ball-sized hail, significant cloud-to-ground lightning and sustained winds exceeding 60 mph in many areas. The storms moved slowly across the metro from about 7 to 9 p.m.
The hardest-hit areas include Raymore, Lee's Summit and portions of south Kansas City. More than 60 power poles were damaged in the storm, including more than 15 transmission line poles.
Additional crews from across Evergy's service territory, including Hutchinson and Wichita as well as contractors throughout our area, have been mobilized to assist restoration efforts. Crews will continue working around the clock until all customers are restored. We do not currently have estimated restoration times. Our damage assessment teams are working to get a better picture of the work needed to get power back on for everyone.

On this day in 1985, Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station began commercial operation, delivering power to the grid and marking the start of a legacy that continues today.
More than 40 years later, Wolf Creek has surpassed 360 million megawatt-hours of electricity generated, providing reliable, around-the-clock, carbon-free energy to the communities we serve.
Behind every megawatt is a dedicated team. Since the reactor first went critical, Wolf Creek has been supported 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by employees across the station, helping ensure safe, reliable operation and continuous power generation.
When operating at full power, Wolf Creek generates approximately 1,250 MW of electricity, enough to power about 800,000 homes.
As we celebrate the anniversary of Wolf Creek’s commercial operation, we also celebrate the employees whose dedication, professionalism and commitment to excellence have made this milestone possible. Thank you, Wolf Creek team, for powering our communities safely and reliably for more than four decades.

Ever drive past an Evergy work site and think, “Why are the trucks parked like that?”
Most of the time, it’s protection. When our crews work near traffic, they build a buffer for the hazard. That can mean a truck is positioned on purpose, cones set wide, lights on and equipment staged where it provides protection for Evergy workers from vehicles traveling or moving near the job site.
Because the risk is not theoretical. A mirror clip, a distracted drift, a late lane change. That is all it takes.
So if you see an Evergy truck angled, or a line of vehicles set up a certain way, especially along a roadway, assume it’s part of the safety plan, and part of a plan to keep you and the workers safe. Slow down early and stay in your lane.
We’ll do our part to work safely and restore power. Help us by getting through the work zone the same way.
Some upgrades start well before installation. Transporting large, critical equipment takes planning, coordination and careful transport across our region to ensure it arrives safely and on schedule, so work in the field can move forward without delays.
