Prosecutors admit contractors hired by Trump “botched” the renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool as they sought to drop charges against the former Olympic canoeist who was accused of vandalizing the landmark. @maddyjrubin @Fahrenthold https://t.co/UU568XawlC

This is really good work by @washingtonsun: the Trump admin gave out a $5M no-bid contract to coat large bronze horses on a DC bridge in gold leaf.

[Anna Kramer @anna_c_kramer]

SCOOP: Trump admin is paying millions to quickly cover four enormous bronze horses with extra-thick 23.75 karat gold leaf.

The money for the rush job is coming from National Park Service. In total, I found ~$100 mil spent on new DC beautification projects

We'd love to know more about the role that this golf club GM, David Schutzenhofer, has played in the renovations of the Reflecting Pool. If you know more, you can reach me at [email protected]

[David Fahrenthold @Fahrenthold]

NEW: The General Manager of Trump's golf club in Bedminster N.J. has played a role in the renovations of the Reflecting Pool -- suggesting ideas and helping recruit at least one of the contractors.

For months @nickshirleyy has been getting free security from a new charity called Blackline, which paid for bodyguards to accompany him to NY, CA & even Cuba. Hasn't cost him a dime.
Blackline argues conservative influencers need protection underwritten by US taxpayers.

Also: President Trump previously said he had personally chosen the contractor to fix the Reflecting Pool, because of the good work they did on his golf club's swimming pools.

Now, Trump says does not know them.

NEW: Interior Dept. staffers have raised questions about the quality and speed of the work being done to repair the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, according to document seen by the NY Times.

SCOOP: A D.C. police investigation into ex-second-in-command Andre Wright's messages shows that he repeatedly questioned crime classifications, solicited sex acts and derided colleagues and subordinates.

The texts are shocking. And I would bet it’s the first time in D.C. police history that an internal affairs report has included a footnote explaining the term WAP.

Thanks @newshour for having me on to talk about the no-bid contract to repair and paint the Reflecting Pool.

[PBS News @NewsHour]

A non-profit group trying to stop President Trump's reflecting pool renovation on the National Mall claims the project breaks federal law. The Cultural Landscape Foundation filed a lawsuit, saying the National Park Service violated the Historic Preservation Act by repainting the pool "American flag blue."

The New York Times is also reporting that its initial cost of less than $2 million has now ballooned to seven times that figure.

@IAmAmnaNawaz speaks to @Fahrenthold for more.

[Jonathan Weisman @jonathanweisman]

Interior Department added $6.2 m to the contract’s cost, saying it now planned to pay $13.1 m to Atlantic Industrial Coatings. Trump said he chose the co. to repair the landmark because it had worked on the swimming pools at his golf club in Sterling, Va https://t.co/3PjOoWQsWy

[David Fahrenthold @Fahrenthold]

Also, D.C. nonprofit @TCLFdotORG sued this morning, asking a federal judge to stop Trump's contractor from painting the pool blue.

The nonprofit says the gov't ignored laws requiring a review of how the paint job would change the landmark.
