Essex County Fire and Rescue Service have released a statement regarding the serious incident yesterday evening at Highlands Farm.

A significant fire, with a number of firefighters welfare and wellbeing a concern for both the fire service and for the union.

The union will continue to support members involved in the incident and the subsequent investigation.

Fire Brigades Union General Secretary Steve Wright said:

“The Fire Brigades Union is aware of a significant fire attended by Essex Fire and Rescue Service in which a number of firefighters have been injured while carrying out their duties.

“Our thoughts are with the injured firefighters, their families, friends and colleagues at this difficult time. We are in contact with local FBU representatives and Essex Fire and Rescue Service to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

“The Fire Brigades Union will ensure our members receive all the support they need and will provide whatever assistance is required in the coming days. It is important that the firefighters involved are given the time, care and support they need as investigations into the incident progress.”
