On Sunday at the #WorldDentalCongress in Prague, we unveiled Generation Smile – the oral health movement for all, our new three-year campaign for 2027–2029. 🌍🦷

Generation Smile is a generation unlike any other — defined not by age, but by a shared purpose: making oral health a priority because it is essential to health and well-being – for everyone, everywhere.

With a packed room and amazing energy, we also celebrated our #WOHD26 Award winners 🏆 and their outstanding efforts to raise oral health awareness around the world. A huge congratulations to all our winners! 👏

Our partners @Haleon_health @solventum and @DentsplySirona joined us to reflect on what we have accomplished together and look ahead to how we can continue building momentum for oral health worldwide — and we were delighted to welcome Lion Corporation Japan as our new #WOHD27 partner! 🙌

💬 How do commercial determinants shape oral health?

At this year's World Oral Health Forum during #WDC26, experts discussed how unhealthy commodity industries influence oral health, from shaping policy and spreading misinformation to targeting vulnerable populations.

The session explored evidence-based policies to address these challenges and highlighted how tackling commercial determinants can accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage through stronger prevention, sustainable public financing from taxes on unhealthy commodities, and protection of global health policy processes from undue commercial influence.

This dedicated session at #WDC26 brought together participants to explore the latest evidence on emerging nicotine products, their impact on oral health and practical strategies to support patients through effective, evidence-based tobacco cessation advice.

🏆 Congratulations to the 2026 FDI Smile Grant winners!

At #WDC26 in Prague, FDI President Assist. Prof. Dr Nikolai Sharkov presented the 2026 Smile Grant awards to the Hellenic Dental Association and the New Zealand Dental Association.

Supported generously by Colgate, the FDI Smile Grant recognizes community-based initiatives that are making oral health promotion and prevention more accessible.

This year’s winning projects are bringing prevention to communities in innovative ways: From a mobile dental unit and children’s theatre in Greece to supervised electric toothbrushing in special schools in New Zealand.

👏 Congratulations to both associations for their inspiring work to reduce oral health inequalities and create healthier communities!

🌍 10 Years of Oral Health Observatory Data — now available in French and Spanish!

For more than a decade, the FDI Oral Health Observatory (OHO) project has collected practice-based oral health data from over 10,000 patients across 12 countries, helping demonstrate how patient-reported, point-of-care data contribute to stronger oral health information systems and inform policy and advocacy.

We’re delighted to announce that French and Spanish versions of the OHO 10 Years Impact Report are now available, making this journey accessible to an even broader audience.

The report features country case studies and highlights the value of practice-based data in complementing national oral health surveys and supporting evidence-informed action.

HPV prevention is a shared responsibility — and oral health professionals have an important role to play.
