They can delist USDT. They can't delist yours.

Worth separating what's actually happening. MiCA isn't a ban on USDT - it's a licensing framework, and EU-regulated venues simply can't list a stablecoin whose issuer didn't seek that authorization. Tether made a deliberate business call; the exchanges are doing exactly what compliance requires. No villains in this story.

But it's a clean reminder of a distinction most people skip: "holding USDT on an exchange" and "holding USDT" aren't the same thing. The first depends on a venue's license, jurisdiction and listing decisions. The second - in a self-custody wallet depends on your keys.

A delisting is a venue event. It doesn't reach coins you hold yourself. Same asset, fewer intermediaries between you and it.

Self-custody has its own homework - guard your seed phrase - but that's the trade: responsibility in exchange for control.

Tether’s $186B USDT is set to be removed on regulated EU crypto platforms as MiCA rules take effect on July 1.

Coinbase, Kraken, and Crypto .com EU have already restricted $USDT after Tether chose not to seek MiCA approval.

Circle’s $74B USDC could benefit as the only top-10 MiCA-compliant stablecoin.
