Women in ADR is participating in the 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐔𝐊𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 by Ciarb Kenya, from 5–9 October 2026 in Ukunda, Kwale County.
On *8th October 2026 from 8:30 AM*, FIDA-Kenya will host a panel on “Women Shaping the Future of Dispute Resolution in Africa,”
Are our political party processes truly open for women, youth, and people with disabilities to take part, compete, and lead?
Before the @ORPPKenya deadline for reviewing party election and nomination rules, FIDA-Kenya met with women, youth, and PWD groups from political parties in Nyanza and Western regions in Kisumu to discuss what real inclusion means.
The discussion focused on what happens beyond the written rules. How are nomination rules applied? Are party lists representative of women, youth, persons with disabilities and minorities? Are nominations transparent and consistent? And do party members understand their party constitutions and nomination rules before the nomination process begins?
Women shared how they face cultural expectations, close scrutiny, intimidation, and sexual harassment when they try to become political leaders. These stories show why political parties need stronger systems to protect women from gender-based violence, including online abuse, as they take part, campaign, and run for office.
The group also talked about the experiences of people with disabilities, including caregivers and parents of children with disabilities, whose voices are often left out of political discussions. True inclusion means understanding these different situations and making sure they have a place in party structures and decisions.
So, reviewing party election and nomination rules is not just about following the rules. It is also about making sure political parties offer fair and open ways for women, youth, and people with disabilities to take part, compete, and lead. This also helps build stronger grassroots involvement and supports politics based on real issues.
As Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election, political inclusion should show up not just in party documents, but also in how parties recruit, nominate, protect, and represent their members.
This meeting was supported by the @UKinKenya and @ELGIA_Africa under the Kenya Institutional Strengthening Programme (KISP).

FIDA-Kenya’s September 2026 Media Monitor looks at how Kenyan media covered women’s political participation ahead of the 2027 General Election. The findings show growing visibility of women as political actors, but persistent barriers, including campaign financing, political violence, online harassment, body shaming, moral policing, and other forms of technology-facilitated gender-based violence. The report also asks whose voices are heard, and whose experiences remain missing from the political conversation. #VoteADada

We are thankful for the time Wanjeri Elizabeth Wangui spent with us as part of the FIDA-Kenya family, and will always remember her with respect and wamth.
FIDA-Kenya leadership was sensitised on the Judiciary’s end-to-end automated succession process and the Urithi Tracker, a digital tool designed to improve efficiency, transparency and accountability in succession cases. The sensitisation session, facilitated by Hon. Lady Justice Josephine Mong’are, Judge of the High Court, gave the leadership an overview of how the Urithi Tracker enables court users to monitor the progress of succession applications through the Judiciary’s E-Filing Portal. This digital innovation strengthens access to justice for vulnerable court users, including women and children, who may struggle to navigate succession proceedings. FIDA-Kenya continues to support initiatives that promote accessible, transparent and responsive justice systems, particularly for women, children and other vulnerable groups.

Online safety plays a key role in helping women take part in civic and political life. At the panel discussion by @MzalendoWatch, FIDA-Kenya Program Officer, Ms Virginia Kibunja, spoke about how technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV) can limit women’s participation, visibility, and engagement online. The discussion stressed the importance of spotting and reporting TFGBV early and making sure women have access to support and response services so they can join leadership and public life without facing online threats or abuse.
@ELGIA_Africa@UKinKenya
Today’s conversation turned to an important question: What does online safety mean for women and men’s meaningful participation in political and civic life?
The conversation brought together perspectives from @fidakenya, @ManifestoYetu, a civil society practitioner and a Member of the County Assembly, creating space for different experiences and insights on online safety, political participation and technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).
The panel explored how online abuse can shape decisions to speak out, seek leadership, campaign and participate in elections, and what needs to change to make digital spaces safer and more inclusive.
The discussion also looked at the role of political parties, electoral institutions, online communities and individuals in preventing and responding to TFGBV, while reflecting on the experiences of young people and the role they can play in challenging harmful behaviour online.

FIDA-Kenya convened students and young advocates for a focused engagement on career growth, professional development and meaningful participation in the legal profession.
The session provided a platform to explore practical opportunities for growth, including the FIDA-Kenya Pro Bono Lawyers Scheme, continuous professional learning, skills development, mentorship, networking and meaningful engagement within the profession.
The day also marked an important development in expanding learning opportunities for FIDA-Kenya members, with FIDA-Kenya and @UNICAForg signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The partnership will provide opportunities for further learning, including a special tuition arrangement for FIDA-Kenya members pursuing additional studies.
For FIDA-Kenya, investing in students and young advocates is an investment in the future of the legal profession. Through mentorship, continuous learning, professional engagement and opportunities to serve, young members are being equipped not only to build successful careers, but also to contribute to a more accessible, equitable and responsive justice system.
