Registration remains open for the inaugural FIDE World Amateur Rapid & Blitz Championships, taking place in Abuja, Nigeria, from August 1–8, 2026.

Open to players rated under 2300, with Open and Women’s sections across multiple rating categories. The registration and visa invitation letter deadline is June 30.

🏆 Submit a nomination! FIDE has launched the FIDE Excellence Awards, a new biennial awards programme established to recognise outstanding achievements, individuals, events, federations, teams, creators, and initiatives across the global chess community.

Throughout June, the chess community can submit nominations online. The FIDE Excellence Awards Working Group reviews all entries and compiles initial longlists, screening out candidates who do not meet the stated criteria.

The Asian Individual Chess Championship concluded in Ulaanbaatar, 🇲🇳 Mongolia, after nine rounds of play on June 6, 2026.

Held in both the Open and Women’s sections, the competition featured an impressive field of 34 Grandmasters, 12 Women Grandmasters, 51 International Masters, 20 Women International Masters, 49 FIDE Masters, and 18 Candidate Masters representing 30 countries.

♟ This award program recognizes schools that use chess as an educational tool and have created a thriving chess culture that has positively impacted their school and community. These schools aim to transform the child, helping to develop 21st century skills through chess that will be applicable in other areas of their lives. This transformation can happen regardless of the school's size or available resources. We are looking for schools that use chess as a changemaker.

🏅 Schools can earn gold, silver, or bronze level awards, each coming with special perks, including access to LogiqBoard, ChessKid memberships, discounts on Preparation of Teachers (PoT) courses, Learning Chess membership and membership for Notationary. More importantly, award-winning schools join a community of schools worldwide dedicated to the value of educational chess, with the ability to network and collaborate with other schools.

🚲♟️ Schackcykeln: “The Chess Bike” project launches in 🇸🇪 Trelleborg, Sweden

Schackcykeln (The Chess Bike), a free mobile chess initiative, is launching on June 15, 2026, in Trelleborg, Sweden. 🚴‍♂️ A cargo bike equipped with chess sets, tables, and chairs will visit parks, squares, beaches, and residential areas throughout summer 2026. The initiative is open to everyone – no registration required and no cost.

The project is funded by the Swedish Postcode Foundation (SEK 60,000) and is run entirely by volunteers at Söderslätt Schacksällskap. The goal: 50 sessions, 10 locations, and 200 unique participants. 🎯
