I am grateful for the stellar support of @nytimes leadership voiced in this statement as I've faced months of harassment, slander, death & rape threat from some Iran opposition groups & trolls.
Thank you @deanbaquet@cliffordlevy@meslackman et al
Journalists around the globe, particularly women and journalists of color, are being targeted for the role they play in ensuring a free and informed society. They should be free to work without harassment.
Must read from @Alissanyt who spent 20 years covering the Iraq war debacle and witnessing its aftermath unfold.
The Americans did not understand the country when they invaded in 2003. Over her many trips there, it was not clear that this ever changed much.

The U.S. leaving Iraq for those of us who covered & lived the war marks a major memory trigger. I wrote a book about the Iraq war fiasco, from the perspective of ordinary Iraqi people. The title comes from Iraqis saying, "We are still waiting," when I asked how they were doing.
"Waiting for an Ordinary Day."

The end. U.S. forces formally withdrew from Iraq on Wednesday, ending a two-decade military presence that stoked years of devastating bloodshed, and leaves behind a battered nation struggling to unshackle itself from its two most powerful, and now warring, allies.

Student journalists rock. Most people moved on from the 2024 report of a terrible rape at Cornell, but the @cornellsun wouldn't let go and pushed for accountability. https://t.co/p00Ui8OWXc by @emmabgo
Eight U.S. Marines were injured two weeks ago when an Iranian cruise missile attacked the ship they were operating on in the Strait of Hormuz, according to three U.S. officials. https://t.co/k2ZTc9PKkS
It's important for all my media colleagues who attended the press conference to be aware the instigator of these smearing and false attacks was Iran International television outlet. Be aware if and when you deal with them.
Here is a reminder of how women journalists are disproportionately targeted, harassed, smeared and threatened with violence. Prime example this week with attacks from Iran opposition trolls & their propaganda television channel.

The UN is frustrating and disappointing -- but essential. It engineered the child survival revolution that saved 25 million lives. Yet now the US, China, Russia seem eager to marginalize it further, in ways that will cost lives: https://t.co/jvJEkKwqgs

Yes. I was there, as were editors and presidents of media as well as network anchors in a morning meeting, too.
It's the job of journalists to report the news.
