Her middle name is ๅคฉไฝฟ Tianxi, angel. But my wife and I chose it bc the characters mean Heaven + Send, & she's our gift from the universe--the dream baby neither of us thought we would get. Gonna do a newsletter soon on egg/embryo freezing & the graph I wish I'd seen earlier!
This little angel got here just in time for Mother's Day. My path as a mom started a long time ago, when I became a step-mom. Then came K. Then an 8 year journey filled with twists and turns, and now, baby H, after starting the process to freeze embryos two years ago.
Its title in the UK is my handle Femonomics, published by @HodderNonFic! UK preorders: https://t.co/9EknsK2w1a
I absolutely cannot wait to share this story, data, and mandate to find a better way with you all. In the meantime, I'm gonna go have a baby real quick--back soon!
The book starts with me pumping in an Amtrak bathroom: commuting 2 hours, the primary breadwinner & caretaker, juggling it all but feeling on top of nothing. How did I get there? How did WE get there? It unpacks the history of what happened and science of what we can do about it.
Thrilled to share the cover of my upcoming book, Having It All: What Data Tells Us About Women's Lives and Getting the Most Out of Yours. Flatiron, Sept 23! Containing 15 years of research & my personal story. Preorder links, book talks, & newsletter here! https://t.co/CVC1fRuVZG
My friend and brilliant scientist Emily Falk has written a wonderful book for the current moment--about the alignment, or sometimes lack of, between what we value and the choices we make, and how neuroscience can help us understand the gap. Grab your copy! https://t.co/eN3uVxuZDs
@SecRubio Please see this letter signed by over 100 economists, including 3 Nobel prize winners, encouraging the immediate release of PEPFAR funds and continuation of these life-saving programs! https://t.co/ZE797fI0iY
I am hearing that PEPFAR programs are still being stalled, and medication appointments cancelled, despite a waiver in place to allow life-saving programs to continue. Thus, @belindaarch and I are sharing the letter we wrote, signed by 110 economists, urging its continuation. 1/4
@SenBillCassidy Thank you Senator. In case helpful, please see this letter signed by over 100 economists on the essential nature of this program, including three Nobel Prize winners: https://t.co/ZE797fI0iY

This is not a left/right issue--PEPFAR was started by George W. Bush, and R Sen Bill Cassidy is calling for funds to be released: https://t.co/5CZBysN6da
Medication withheld IS lives lost. People's viral loads will rebound, be transmissible, + may become unresponsive to ARTs. 3/4
PEPFAR is the epitome of soft power. It is a Republican initiative, it is pro-life, pro-America and the most popular U.S. program in Africa. Thereโs even a waiver acknowledging this, yet Iโm told that drugs are still being withheld at clinics in Africa. This must be reversed immediately!!
Gendered roles have converged in the workplace, but not at home. New evidence suggests that the inelasticity of men's housework time might be standing in the way of marriage, from Kyle Hancock, Jeanne Lafortune, and @femonomics https://t.co/87NBT0AqVI
Finally, Ande tests a mechanism specific to developing, multilingual nations: could the default to English as lingua franca be creating frictions in job seekers getting detailed info from postings? She finds offering a Hindi option boosts real job seeker applications tremendously
Ok one more job candidate before I head back across the rainbow! Andelyn Russell is a great developmentXbehavioral JMC with a particular knack for building partnerships to run field experiments. Ande convinced a large Indian job board to experiment on both firms and job seekers.
Ande then checks to see if firms simply don't know that workers value these things, finding clear info about how much workers value amenities leads recruiters to change their listing behavior, displaying her superhuman ability to get partners to see the value in experimentation!
Hey #econtwitter! Dropping back over to tell you about a great Wharton job candidate! Xian Ng studies whether households are able to optimize over financial products with different up-front versus sustained payments. This area often has a tradeoff b/t identification and stakes ๐งต
If you're looking in HH finance, real estate, behavioral finance, or general applied micro, please take a careful look at Xian! His JMP is very impressive + uncovers a deeply important phenomenon in consumer difficulty optimizing over long time horizons! https://t.co/HBGl41J6EZ
