Alongside the updated 2027 Ammonia Code of Practice, Fertilizer Canada has published an updated Ammonia Code User Guide for sites certified under the Code.

The User Guide serves as a reference resource, providing additional guidance and rationale, as well as supporting materials to complement the Code's requirements and support consistent application across certified sites.

The updated 2027 Ammonia Code of Practice comes into effect on January 1, 2027.

Fertilizer Canada has released the updated 2027 Ammonia Code of Practice, demonstrating the fertilizer industry’s continued leadership and commitment to the safe and secure storage and handling of anhydrous ammonia.

Reviewed every five years, the industry-led Code is updated to reflect evolving regulatory requirements, operational best practices and emerging safety considerations. The 2027 edition is the result of a comprehensive review and consultation process, helping ensure certified sites across Canada continue to meet the industry’s rigorous safety and security standards.

The updated Code will take effect on January 1, 2027.

Thank you to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture and Wheatland Conservation Area for hosting Crop Diagnostic School in Swift Current.

Fertilizer Canada was pleased to take part in the event, which brought growers, agronomists, researchers and industry representatives together for hands-on learning focused on Saskatchewan crop production.

The program featured practical demonstrations on 4R nitrogen management, including fertilizer rate, timing and placement, alongside sessions on organic amendments, soil diagnostics, crop scouting and pest management.

SaskOilseeds and Jeff Schoenau made valuable contributions to the 4R component and helped deliver two informative days of learning in the field.

Thank you to Sirski Farms, Manitoba Canola Growers, Manitoba Pulse & Soybean Growers and Manitoba Crop Alliance for a valuable day in the field focused on 4R fertilizer management and on-farm research.

Fertilizer Canada was pleased to support the 2026 On-Farm Research Tour near Dauphin, Manitoba, which brought growers, agronomists and industry partners together to explore practical, science-based approaches to nutrient management.

Participants toured research trials in canola, wheat and soybeans, highlighting how 4R Nutrient Stewardship can support nutrient use efficiency, productivity and informed decision-making on the farm.

President and CEO Michael Bourque moderated a panel exploring what it will take to position Canada as a global agri-food superpower at the Canadian Federation of Agriculture Annual General Meeting in Halifax this week.

The discussion reinforced that Canada has no shortage of potential. We have the natural resources, expertise, innovation and people to lead. The challenge is ensuring our policy environment keeps pace with our ambition.

When asked what Canada must overcome to become a global agri-food superpower, the response was clear: it's all of the above. Regulatory burden, fragmentation across the agri-food value chain, and barriers to commercializing research and innovation were recognized as interconnected challenges that require coordinated solutions. Unlocking Canada’s full potential will take a shared commitment to strengthening competitiveness, attracting investment and creating the conditions for innovation to thrive.

Canada has everything it takes to help feed a growing world. Now is the time to build the policy environment that enables our entire agri-food sector to grow, compete and lead.

Fertilizer Canada’s Director of Government Affairs, Matthew Don Trapp, visited a Federated Co-operatives Limited anhydrous ammonia retail location in Saskatchewan last week to connect with the people and operations that support the safe and secure distribution of fertilizer across Canada.

The visit highlighted the rigorous safety and security practices embedded throughout the distribution network. As administrator of the industry’s Anhydrous Ammonia Code of Practice, Fertilizer Canada works with agri-retailers to support consistent standards for the safe storage, handling, and distribution of anhydrous ammonia.

Seeing these practices firsthand reinforced that safety is part of how the industry operates every day, guiding the people, processes, and procedures that support the secure movement of anhydrous ammonia.
