Scientists have used yeast found on a 5,300-year-old mummy to bake "very good" sourdough bread
The yeast was recovered from Ötzi the Iceman, and they believe it could be used to make beer next
In 1928, hundreds of strange elongated skulls were discovered on the Paracas Peninsula in Peru.
Some looked so unnatural that people claimed they were proof of aliens. But the truth was disturbing in a different way.
The skulls belonged to real humans. Their heads had been deliberately reshaped as children.
The Paracas civilization, which lived in the region between roughly 800 and 100 BCE, practiced cranial deformation by tightly binding a child’s head during the first years of life.
While the skull was still soft, cloth or boards were wrapped around it. Slowly, the pressure forced the cranium to grow into an elongated shape. The result was permanent.
What looks like a bizarre ancient mystery was actually a human skull shaped by culture, status, and tradition thousands of years ago.
