@joshhart Restaurants, especially at the high end, run a 3-10% profit margin overall, and that’s with a 3x-5x markup on beverages. The wine is subsidizing the labor/food costs and high overhead.
It’s cheaper in wine shops (1.5x-2x) because he rent and labor are way lower.

A lot of ppl ask me about tailoring for queer bodies, which is not something I know much about. But an NYC tailor just told me about K Zao, a Providence, RI shop that bills itself a "queer tailoring." The work looks quite good to me.

@dieworkwear Followed this up with a commission for a couple pairs of work pants that I wear almost everyday. Can’t speak highly enough of the quality.

@dieworkwear They do nice work for big folks too. I’m 5’11 260# and they made these for me last year, I love it. Went super deep into fabric types and function, a really incredible learning experience in addition to great clothes.

AF as a school takes advantage of the public school system and the taxpayers in multiple ways, and this deal is very disturbing. The one way that they game the system that grinds my gears the most:

All the while the public school system end up with a heavier share of the programming burden, higher costs, lower test scores, and worse infrastructure.

It’s either in the best light ignorance of the event and that event’s impact on the city as a whole combined with a fear to lead and organize, at worst it’s lining the pockets and catering to “non-profit” entities. And either way is at the expense of the regular people of PVD

Soooo…doesn’t want to pay staff internally to organize so they just throw some money at the waterfire ppl and make it waterfire+.

What gets me is that most restaurants in the city know that waterfire isn’t good for your business unless you are on the water. PVDFest was busy!

• now it's happening in September
• no block parties allowed anywhere
• relocated to the Providence River instead of main downtown
• no PVD Fest bars
• no open containers permitted

Change the date to cater to the college kids…move the location so it benefits the college kids and the east side…no block parties, no outdoor bars, no open container for a day…more tying the city’s cultural legacy to the waterfire corp….
