We all know the playbook:
1. Oppose all regulation
2. Call workers "family" and your "number one priority"
3. Keep exploiting workers

Without specific, enforceable laws to protect ALL workers, the #ExtremeHeat death toll will rise in New York and across the U.S.

Farmers will invest in cooling systems to help cows adapt to heat. But without mandated #ExtremeHeat protections, they won't do the same for workers.

This weekend we joined @workerscny and community members for a vigil to #BringCarlosHome. Carlos has been in ICE detention for 3 months, and should be home with his family.

@WorkersCNY So many people are being detained for no reason but their immigration status. Being undocumented is a civil offense, not criminal. A federal judge even stated that the government must prove that Carlos is a risk or danger to the community to lock him up. They have not done so.

@WorkersCNY After finally getting a hearing last month, Carlos was denied bond. This seems to be part of the government's strategy to drag out #habeas process and keep people detained even when illegal.

Workers at Philz Coffee locations in San Francisco, Glendale, Cupertino, and Torrance have filed to join Philz Coffee United, affiliated with UFCW Locals 5 & 770.

This growth builds on what was started by the Berkeley crew, who are currently negotiating their first contract.

And @AlianzaAgricola reminds us: for dairy workers, #ExtremeTemperatures means extreme cold too, which brings its own serious hazards each winter.

Without legal protections to back them up, it's hard for Jose and his coworkers to make safety demands from their employer.

Even when those demands are as simple as shade, rest, and drinking water. ⛱️🪑🚰

These temperatures are not letting up, and in New York State where Jose works, there are NO specific rules protecting workers from #ExtremeHeat.
