I was honored to officiate the inauguration of the Consulate General of the Republic of Kenya in Guangzhou. I was joined by Ambassador Willy Bett, Consul General James Muhati, senior officials from the Foreign Affairs Office of the Guangdong Provincial People's Government, Heads of Consulate General, members of the business community, and leaders of
Kenya’s diaspora.

The Consulate General's jurisdiction covering Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan Provinces and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, places it in a strategically important region. These provinces are home to vibrant manufacturing and technology ecosystems, major ports, global supply chains, innovation centres and rapidly growing consumer markets

The Consulate General in Guangzhou will bring consular services closer to Kenyans living and working in the region, while also facilitating services for Chinese partners engaged in bilateral trade and investment.

We hosted an official luncheon for the
Business and Diplomatic communities and our diaspora to commemorate the inauguration of our Consulate in Southern China. Representatives from the Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office and the Guangzhou Municipal Government echoed and reinforced my remarks on strengthening the Kenya–China Strategic Partnership, particularly in the areas of economic and technical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges for our mutual benefit.

On behalf of the National Museums of Kenya, I was also honoured to receive a ceramic carving of a White Rhino in recognition of Kenya’s conservation efforts. The piece will be officially delivered to Nairobi later this year by officials from Guangdong Province and the Guangzhou Municipal Government.

Kenya is honoured to have been elected to the Council of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) for the 2027–2030 term, during the just concluded 31st Session of the ISA Assembly in Kingston, Jamaica.

This election reflects the confidence of the international community in Kenya's longstanding commitment to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) ; rules-based ocean governance; sustainable management of the common heritage of humankind; and advancing maritime scientific research, and an equitable and inclusive stewardship of the world's oceans.

Kenya will remain committed ensuring that the outcomes of the Nairobi Sustainable Blue Economy Conference and, the Mombasa Eleventh Our Ocean Conference - the first ever Our Ocean Conference held in the African region - are implemented in close partnership with ISA members, and in line with UNCLOS mandate. @ForeignOfficeKE @psmining_ke @KenyainJamaica

Held a fruitful Bilateral meeting with my brother and Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, H.E Miao Deyu in Beijing today. We reviewed the status of our countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership and shared ideas on deepening our Bilateral ties especially in key priority sectors; such as Trade under the Zero-tariffs Agreement which has already registered a sharp rise in Kenya exports to China since May, as well as strengthening practical cooperation in advancing South-South shared interests.
We also acknowledged the role played by the Belt and Road Initiative projects within the region in accelerating connectivity and fostering people to people interractions while enabling commerce.

I commended China’s leadership on multilateral issues including on digital cooperation and artificial intelligence, and invited China’s support in addressing peace and security challenges in the Horn of Africa. @ForeignOfficeKE @ChineseEmbKenya @KenyaEmbinChina

Great to be back at China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) today to reaffirm the strong and growing partnership between Kenya and China. Our discussions focused on partnership to strengthen bilateral cooperation projects on Kenya's national development priority needs, including infrastructure development, people–to-people contact, ICT and health among others. It is always encouraging to build on the momentum of the strong relationship and shared commitments to deliver practical, impactful and sustainable win-win outcomes. Glad to visit the Multilateral Cooperation Development Center for Finance (MCDF) in Beijing.

At a time of intensifying global competition for development financing and growing calls to reforming the international financial architecture, we valued insights from MCDF on innovative financing models to support developing countries.

Pleased to meet CEO Mr. Zhongjing Wang and the MCDF Secretariat as we advance Kenya’s development cooperation agenda.

Expressed our sincere appreciation for MCDF’s support of 300million kenya shillings towards project preparation for the Mau Summit-Malaba segment of the Highway, a landmark PPP infrastructure project currently underway in Kenya. Delivered a lecture at Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on “Reforming the International Financial Architecture and the Future of Development Cooperation.” Echoing President William Ruto’s remarks at the Africa Forward Summit, I challenged outdated narratives that continue to define Africa through the lens of need rather than potential. Africa, is not waiting to be rescued, it is a continent rich in ideas, resources and opportunity, ready to partner with countries that recognise its strategic value and invest in its future. @ForeignOfficeKE

Africa’s future is not shaped by chance, it is shaped by leadership, unity and the courage to make bold decisions. At the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council in Addis Ababa, I joined fellow African Foreign Ministers in advancing Agenda 2063, strengthening Africa’s voice in global governance, accelerating the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (@AfCFTA ), promoting sustainable water and sanitation systems, and driving reforms to build a more effective, accountable and people-centred African Union.

The session marked a significant milestone for Kenya with our elevation to Tier One of the African Union financing framework, joining the continent’s leading economies and contributors. This recognition reflects the confidence Africa has placed in Kenya’s leadership and reinforces our position as Africa’s Diplomatic Capital, helping shape continental priorities while championing peace, regional integration and sustainable development.

For Kenyans, this translates into a stronger voice in continental decision-making, greater opportunities for trade, investment and job creation, enhanced regional stability, and increased confidence in Kenya as a preferred destination for business, diplomacy and international partnerships.

Another important aspect of the session was rallying support for Kenya’s candidates, Justice Njoki Ndung’u for election to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and Judge Phoebe Okowa for election to the International Court of Justice (2027–2036). Their election would strengthen Kenya’s and Africa’s representation in global judicial institutions.

As the session concluded, I left encouraged by the unity, consensus and shared determination demonstrated by African nations. Kenya will continue championing African solutions to African challenges while helping shape a continent that is more peaceful, prosperous, resilient and globally competitive for the benefit of present and future generations.
