Cheers to the 2022-23 school year! It was a great year of organizing, joy-building, and community-building! Our year was mainly based on 3 things: Committing funds to the UC Townhomes, Penn to Pay PILOTs, and Penn to divest from Fossil Fuels. Time for a recap!
Hamdan Ballal — the co-director of No Other Land — has been kidnapped and beaten (and allegedly lynched). The fact that there is barely any coverage of this is horrifying.
This sham of a process laid bare what Philadelphians have long known: Decisions about the future of our city are not being made by the people who live here or have their best interest in mind, but by a select few who care only about their own bank accounts.
This was always bigger than one arena or one neighborhood. We celebrate that Chinatown is safe for now, but nobody’s home is safe as long as billionaire developers are planning our city and politicians are playing their game.
NO HOMECOMING DURING GENOCIDE
While Penn students and alumni celebrate Homecoming weekend, we are reminded of the Palestinians whose homes have been ethnically cleansed and continue to fight for their right to return.
i have no idea what's going to happen (tho documented GOP plans for suppression of pro-Palestinian activism is a sign) but they are building the infrastructure to criminalize solidarity. what they can do for a bail fund, they will try to do for abortion funds, ect.
gonna keep ringing this bell: everyone from climate to repro activism should get familiar w/ the techniques used to repress the Stop Cop City movement (bs RICO charges, weaponization of vague new "anti-terror" laws, criminalization of bail funds, ect) and have a plan to meet them
I was horrified to learn that Penn Police violently raided the home of pro-Palestinian student organizers early Friday morning, as they were sleeping.
It is unacceptable that officers armed with tactical gear and assault rifles threatened the safety of unarmed young people.
Israeli forces have bombed a school belonging to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, report our colleagues on the ground.
