How does our brain excel at complex object recognition, yet get fooled by simple illusory contours? What unifying principle governs all Gestalt laws of perceptual organization?
We may have an answer: integration of learned priors through feedback. New paper with Ken Miller! 🧵
Thrilled to share our @NatureComms paper on Doubly Stochastic Renewal (DSR) for partitioning spiking variability (w/ Chandramouli Chandrasekaran & @EngelTatiana). DSR provides a robust mathematical foundation for modeling latent dynamics.

Excited that our work is out together with the amazing @CoenCagli_Lab and Adam Kohn! We demonstrate how neural co-variability in the visual cortex encodes uncertainty about natural scenes and is adaptively modulated by spatial context! (1/7)

If you are at SFN do not miss Manal talk tomorrow at 1:15pm titled “Arousal state influence on spontaneous and visually-evoked network activityacross postnatal development” Abstract No.:5808
Session Number:NANO57
There are also ultra-slow rhythms that are usually cut off in LFP and EEG by the amplifier but can be accessed by examining network spiking rate changes. These slow cycles seem to be also the basis functions underlying the fluctuations in pupil size and mice facial motion!
Heading to Boston to present our work with

Tonight at @VSSMtg
Demo night at Jacaranda Hall:
How do I see myself if I develop dementia?
Inspired by the powerful self-portraits of artist William Utermohlen during his struggles with Alzheimer’s and leveraging our novel inference algorithm for object recognition models
Heading to @VSSMtg to give a talk and a demo night presentation.
