SHOW ME YOUR COPIES! 40 Years Ago Today, @Prince released the 7" of Anotherloverholenyohead featuring Girls & Boys on the B Side. However, in the UK, your B-Side was I Wanna Be Your Lover from his 2nd album. Strange. But who are we to question the madness of a genius?
DID U SEE IT IN THE THEATER? 40 Years ago today, @Prince premiered his 2nd movie Under the Cherry Moon in the unlikely locale of the Centennial Theater in Sheridan, Wyoming when a local girl won a contest to have Prince as her date at the movie premiere in her hometown.
The film was mostly shot in Studios de la Victorine in Nice, France and on location in the French Riviera. Prince and Jerome Benton play gigolos who target and swindle wealthy women. The drama and hilarity ensues when Prince’s character Christopher Tracy fools around and falls in love with the 21-year-old heiress Mary, played by Kristen Scott Thomas.
Which one of you saw it the most in theater?
NAME THAT FAVORITE TRACK! 28 Years Ago Today, the New Power Generation dropped their 3rd and last solo album Newpower Soul. Not to be confused with the song New Power Soul off of the Exodus album. In their previous 2 albums, @Prince was "in the background" as uncredited or background under an alias, giving NPG free reign to widen their creativity.
However, Newpower Soul features only Prince on the cover and he is prominent throughout the entire album. The album is essentially Prince on all instruments and lead vocals and it's even unknown just how involved that members of the NPG were.
Prince toured extensively to support the album as O(+> on what was referred to as either the New Power Soul Tour or the New Power Soul Festival Tour. During the tour, he also cross promoted Chaka Khan’s Come 2 My House and Graham Central Station’s GCS 2000.
The album produced 2 singles, Come On and The One and reached number 22 on the US Billboard 200 Chart, and number 8 on the Billboard R&B Albums Chart.

SHOW YOUR LOVE! A Happy Birthday to the beat monster, 3rd Eye Girl drummer Hannah Ford aka Hannah Welton who thumped her way into our purple hearts. Born on this day in 1990. I am still a huge proponent of the Estate officially releasing those late night studio recordings that gave us Octopus Heart, Menstrual Cycle, and other brilliant jam sessions. Wishing her a happy birthday anyway, while we wait....
WHO REMEMBERS? 45 Years Ago Today, Morris Day and The Time released their VERY FIRST SINGLE, Get It Up. Quite literally, the rest is history.

WHERE WERE YOU WHEN YOU HEARD? On this day in 2009, Michael Jackson passed away at the age of 50. It was horrible news that shocked and shook the music world to its core. Amid the pomp and circumstance of a newly announced tour entitled This Is It, MJ was preparing for a record breaking line of performances that would be unlike any the world had seen before. There was a wealth of controversy surrounding him as he fought off what was proven to be false allegations. They sought to tarnish and destroy him, but would never be able to derail his legacy of one of the greatest performers of all time. Rest in Peace, Michael. They don't make 'em like this anymore.
SHOW YOUR LOVE! A Happy Heavenly Birthday to the incomparable George Michael (born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou). Remembering his humble beginnings with his musical partner Andrew Ridgeley in Wham! to his undeniable prowess in his solo career that seemed to always find a place on the charts. Good music and solid songwriting stocked out his resume consistently for many years until his untimely and sudden passing in 2016. Keep his memory alive!
SHARE YOUR MEMORIES! 42 Years Ago Today. @Prince released his iconic album Purple Rain. I still remember exactly where I was when I first saw the When Doves Cry music video. I also remember where I was when I first heard that screaming guitar solo of Let’s Go Crazy on Top 40 radio. The RADIO! A guitar solo without any accompaniment? Just a wailing guitar all by its lonesome? Who does that? Prince does that.
The album served as the soundtrack to the movie (which I saw 5 times in the theaters) and strangely enough did not include music from Morris Day and The Time or Apollonia 6. But this soundtrack would kick off a worldwide obsession that would last for decades and cement him as the legend that he truly was.
This album is undeniable and if you were alive when it originally was released, you can still put on headphones and step into a time warp as you get enveloped and embraced by that era. Remembering where you were, what you were doing, and how far you've come. What's your story?

@Neo_Manifesto Great story too. Got money from a gas station ATM knowing there was no money in the account and it gave it to me anyway. Blindly bought the tickets just to be in the building and those were the random seats it picked for me. Front row balcony. 2nd best only to PPAAM in Atlanta.
