Saturday was antenna farming. Helping a mate install a 70cms antenna and running 60m hardline back to the shack. A nice chilly autumnal day at 1300 feet.
@GM0WHS Just been listening to ‘The Newsroom’ on BBC World Service 00:28Z and there was some great audio footage from your contact. I missed it live on 2m but glad to have heard it just now.
Friday - Newark Hamfest, UK. My yearly opportunity to ‘rightsize’ my #hamradio gear based on what I haven’t used in the past year, plus meet old and new friends. Thanks to my old pal Richard (pictured) for the invaluable assistance. Fun day.
Actually…. It’s a V9 vertical. In 20 mins I went from 80 to 60-40-30-20-17-15-12-10 and made 9 x FTx Qs on 9 bands w/o moving from chair. 160m had good RX but remote auto ATU struggled. If there was action on 6m then I could’ve made it 10 bands. I highly recommend the CG3000 !
Pleased to get #9T0MD in the Democratic Republic of Congo on 12m FT8. Using 80W to a home brew ‘V8 vertical’. Fortunately they didn’t appear busy when I called. It makes up for the hours spent (to no avail) on 20m CW yesterday ! #hamradio fun
@G0IIQ At least you got ‘em! Well done. I’m not equipped for 100 TX. I think I spent 6 hours on 20CW yesterday and then first call barefoot to a compromise vertical on 12m FT8 today. That’s what makes our hobby so interesting and diverse !
@WattDrop Tbh I don’t tend to concentrate on specific bands (perhaps I should!). For this Q, the skip was clearly long-ish and I didn’t see anyone else calling. Lucky string opening I guess. The joys of radio.
Antenna design is along lines of N6BT. 8 bander. CG3000 at feed
Today, a trip down a local copper mine w/ my ‘old guy mates’. Dates from the mid-1700s. I also scoped out the engine shed on top of the hill… maybe a place to do a portable activation with a vertical antenna tuned against a ground capacitor…if I don’t try, I’ll never know!
