I am speaking out because silence is no longer an option.

This is not a private family matter.
This is about violence, police inaction, and the failure to protect my child, who has a documented developmental disability.

I went to see my child with the father’s permission and confirmation.
Instead, I was refused access. The stepmother locked herself and my child inside a room. Two women were then brought to physically assault me.

I was beaten, pushed to the ground, restrained, scratched, and humiliated.
A hospital later issued a medical report confirming my injuries.

The most disturbing part:
Police officers were present. They did not intervene.

The attackers were instructing each other on how to hold me down. When an attempt was made to record what was happening, the door was closed and the assault continued. They even put eggs on me. All infront of @PoliceMv

My child was in the next room crying.

Before this incident, the stepmother had threatened to kill me. I reported this to the police. No effective protection was provided. One week later, this assault happened.

How can this be called “safe”?

My child has a formal psychological assessment confirming:
• Autism spectrum features
• Severe communication delays
• Functioning far below age level
• A clear need for speech and language therapy

Yet:
– My child is not receiving speech therapy
– Authorities stated, without any clinical evidence, that my child does not require it
– They claimed my child is “supplemented” with services that do not exist locally in the island he was kept in. (Laamu maavah)
– No evidence-based service plan has ever been provided

Despite repeated reports of neglect and violence, I was told by Gender authorities that my child is living in a “safe environment.”

I have gone to the Police.
I have gone to the Gender Ministry.
I have gone to commissions, including the National Integrity Commission.

I know the legal system.
I followed every process.

Still, the system failed me and my child.

Under Maldivian law, a child cannot be placed with a stepmother while the biological mother is present, willing, and capable, especially where there is evidence of neglect and violence.

So I ask:

How is violence witnessed by police considered “safe”?
How are medical assessments ignored without counter-evidence?
How are a child’s disability needs dismissed?
Who is accountable when institutions fail both mother and child?

I am speaking not just for myself, but for every parent and every child failed by silence and inaction.

Accountability protects children.
