@BrianZisook Editorial playlists are also a lagging indicator, not a leading one. Culture starts with people not playlists. Build demand first & playlists will come. Ask any high school/college kid to name 3 editorial playlists. They can’t because that’s not where they discover music.

@BrianZisook Only caveat here is that we don’t know how short the license is for his catalog. I recently worked with another star on republic whose license is only 3yrs, way shorter than anything I’ve seen in all my years. Needless to say, that artist is not as big as drake.

@BrianZisook Let’s take it one step further. If only artists could see what their “DSP support/pitching” looked like from their distributor to dsps. Z could tell us first hand. The lesson is nobody will go as hard for you as you will for yourself. Have to go get it.

this isn’t a gotcha, just somethin that’s been confusing for me to watch but paying 20% on all revenue for y’all to host an artists work that their fans can buy is indirect to consumer, not direct to consumer lol

direct to consumer means no middleman. y’all are the middleman and take 20% for it. Shopify is like $39/mo + 3% per sale. a domain is like $15/yr.

basically an artist can bypass this and get a website and sell directly to their fans
