The @GP_CommSafety officials , together with GBVF Brigaders, today joined key stakeholders at North-West University’s Vanderbijlpark Campus for a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness engagement and march.

The march aimed to raise awareness about GBVF, encourage collective responsibility and strengthen partnerships in the fight against violence.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with institutions of higher learning, officials from the @GP_CommSafety Provincial Secretariat officials today joined key higher education stakeholders at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) for a Varsity Safety Round Table discussion.

The discussions were aimed at strengthening collaboration in addressing safety challenges, preventing Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), and promoting safer learning environments for students, academic staff and university communities.

A joint operation between the Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT (EC) and Boksburg East SAPS led to the arrest of a 20-year-old female suspect for dealing in illegal drugs in Angelo Informal Settlement on Sunday, 20 September 2026.

Officers acted after a tip-off was received during routine crime prevention patrols in Germiston, and they intercepted a stash of illicit substances:

• 101 sachets of Heroin (Nyaope)
• ⁠164 Mandrax tablets
• 72 packets of Crystal Meth
• ⁠ 40 units of Rock

The suspect was processed and booked at Boksburg East SAPS.

Engagement with Tembisa Schools

Today’s engagement provided an opportunity for learners and schools to raise concerns about challenges they experience within their schools and communities. Stakeholders also discussed possible interventions and support mechanisms to address these concerns and contribute towards safe and conducive learning environments.

The continued rollout of the programmes across Tembisa schools is intended to strengthen prevention initiatives and ensure that school safety remains a shared responsibility.

The @GP_CommSafety , through its Social Crime Prevention Unit (Eastern Corridor), today engaged with schools and learners from across Tembisa as part of ongoing efforts to address school safety challenges and promote safer learning environments.

The engagement forms part of a series of school safety talks that have been conducted at schools in the area in partnership with SAPS, Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), Gauteng Department of Social Development (DSD), Department of Correctional Services, Youth Crime Prevention Desk (YCPD) and other key stakeholders.

The programme is set to be rolled out to schools across Tembisa to ensure that learners and educators are equipped with information and support to address social challenges that may affect teaching and learning.

Engagement with Tembisa Schools

The Eastern Corridor has identified seventeen (17) high-risk schools, in line with the Gauteng Department of Education’s priority list. Three of these schools are located in Tembisa, namely Tembisa SOS, Masisebenze Secondary School and Masiqhakaze Secondary School.

The school safety challenges identified include bullying and cyberbullying, gangsterism, sexual harassment, alcohol and substance abuse, gambling and tribal tensions among learners.

In response to these challenges, the Department has facilitated a range of social crime prevention interventions aimed at identifying risks, raising awareness and strengthening collaboration between schools, law enforcement, government departments and other stakeholders.

During crime prevention duties, stop-and-searches and patrols conducted in and around Kempton Park, members of SAPS, Crime Intelligence, the K-9 Unit, Gauteng Traffic Police, Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT (EC) and various private security companies worked together to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of involvement in criminal activities.

The operation resulted in the detention of four (4) suspects for possession of drugs. Members also recovered a pellet gun, which was handed over to the relevant SAPS members for further investigation.

**In a separate operation conducted in and around Elsburg, officers arrested nine (9) suspects who were found in possession of drugs.
