Dr. Satyapriya Rath, Managing Director, @GridcoOdisha, represented Odisha at the high-level panel discussion on “Power Generation & India’s Energy Security: Thermal Transition, Hydrogen & Grid-Scale Storage”, sharing Odisha’s perspective on a balanced energy transition that brings together reliable thermal capacity, renewable energy, grid-scale storage and green hydrogen.

At the India Energy Summit & Expo 2026, the Energy Department, Government of Odisha, as the Prime State Partner, showcased the State’s energy strengths, investment opportunities and vision for a sustainable, secure and investment-ready energy future through its dedicated Odisha State Pavilion.

The Pavilion highlighted Odisha’s evolving energy landscape and its focus on building a balanced, reliable and resilient power system, with opportunities across renewable energy, floating solar, wind power, pumped storage, battery energy storage and green hydrogen.

Odisha has set an ambitious target of adding 10.96 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, comprising solar, wind, pumped storage and small hydro, while simultaneously developing robust grid-scale storage and transmission infrastructure to meet the State’s growing energy needs.

The Pavilion served as a vibrant platform to showcase Odisha’s investment potential, engage with industry and institutional stakeholders, and demonstrate the State’s readiness to play a leading role in India’s clean-energy transition.

With its strong industrial base, abundant renewable energy potential, strategic coastline and ports, and a rapidly expanding clean-energy ecosystem, Odisha is well positioned to power the next phase of India’s energy growth.

Rescue and relief operations are underway across the flood-affected areas, with coordinated efforts focused on the safe evacuation of people and timely delivery of relief.
Relief camps and free kitchens are operational, while essential food supplies, cattle feed and other relief materials are being distributed to affected communities. NDRF, ODRAF and Fire Service teams are deployed to support rescue and relief operations.

All efforts are being undertaken to ensure the safety of affected people and facilitate the restoration of normalcy at the earliest.

✅ Greater flexibility for CPSUs/PSUs
✅ Clearer registration fee provisions
✅ Seamless implementation of policy amendments

#OdishaCabinet has approved amendments to the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy (OREP), 2022, to accelerate renewable energy development, enhance investor confidence and ensure affordable green power.

✅ Electricity Duty Exemption: Extension of exemption at 50 paise per unit for eligible net-metering consumers on consumption from RE projects established in Odisha, for 10 years from commissioning.

✅ BESS Incentive: Extension of 20 paise per unit STU charge exemption for standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) commissioned in Odisha, subject to input energy being sourced from RE projects and output being used to meet the State’s demand.

✅ Wind Power Allocation: Removal of the existing 500 MW cumulative cap for allocation of wind power projects under the first-come-first-served mechanism.

✅ Wind Power Parks: Promotion of Wind Power Parks to facilitate large-scale wind energy development in the State.

✅ Right of First Refusal: Provision of RoFR of up to 25% of the capacity for RE captive projects.

✅ Operational Guidelines: Harmonisation of operational guidelines to improve efficiency and streamline renewable energy project implementation.

✅ Legacy SHEP Projects: GRIDCO designated as the Nodal Agency for implementation of legacy Small Hydro Electric Power (SHEP) projects.

These policy refinements are expected to give a significant boost to renewable energy development and reinforce Odisha’s position as a leading destination for clean energy investments.
