@VeiledVibes@TaraBull The ability to instantly look up an unfamiliar word is one of the best things about technology IMO. The sad part is they managed to get this far when they can't read a simple sentence.
Am I the only person who still thinks the F word, and its many variations, is still an ugly word to use in everyday conversation? I realize it's only a word, but there are others that people avoid using like their lives depend on it. It used to be taboo to say it, and when you actually did hear it, it conveyed a higher level of anger, disgust, basically whatever was causing it to be used. Now grandmas and toddlers can't get through a sentence without it. It just bothers me a bunch and wonder if I'm alone.
@thevivafrei I enjoy your enthusiasm for life, Viva! I feel bad for the folks that just don't seem to get it. They are missing out on a lot of simple joy. Keep it up!
@sevenwheel1@akafaceUS That's the explanation that I've been looking for. I kept trying to imagine what it's like to not have constant narration when reading or just thinking. This is the only one that makes some sense to me.
@Supersonic_Red Dragging the "gut". The expression seems really odd to me now, but we'd pile in somebody's car and drive an endless circle through town, just "being". Of course gas was fifty cents a gallon then, lol.
Had basically the same thing happen to me. I even checked with the city before buying the property. The house was surrounded with beautiful, big trees, and large rock raised beds. They said they had no plans to do more than replace the sidewalk. It's now one of the least eye-pleasing properties along the entire street. They took it all out. Thankfully I had wound up having to sell just before they did it. I was sad to sell at the time because I loved it. Worked out better in the end for me. I'd have been heartbroken if I was still there. Might be the city's easement, but as long as safety was addressed, what you had was beautiful and more useful than grass or rocks and weeds.
I'm sorry, but if your grass is only planted for people to admire and never set foot on it, you're doing something wrong. Different if it was a regular shortcut and used over and over, but this is over the top. If your grass can't handle someone walking on it, plant something else or build a fence
@Demeter_Erinia People (mostly) actually had positional awareness and the ability to read an actual map. I think most natural processes have been completely squelched and the majority would be completely lost finding their way the "old way"
I find myself questioning everything I use now. Could I figure out how to replace it if it's necessary for living? If not, how can I store those things now assuming today's methods of storage (freezers, etc) aren't an option. How much should/ could I store? Do I know HOW even if there's a way? It's overwhelming.
@RepJackKimble It doesn't particularly look like a parody account, but if it isn't, the level of disconnect from actual working Americans is astounding. Just, wow...
I've decided that the one thing I would ask for is that time slow back down. Every year goes by faster, and it feels like you've just put your snow shovel up, and it's time to get it back out. The grandkids were just playing in a kiddie pool, and now they're buying them for their own kids. I want to relish these days, and they are slipping through my fingers faster than ever.
@NiallHarbison There's just so many π but some of them really pull on the heartstrings. Rocky is one for sure. It's been lovely to see him brighten up from the defeated dog ready to die, to loving life again. Thank you, Niall, and all the amazing folks at Happy Dogo.
@NiallHarbison With Hank being a possible barrier and even just having three big dogs in your house, I can't help but pray he comes to stay with you. I haven't seen how he is with other folks, but it's crystal clear how he feels about you β€οΈ
