Vidino verweist ausdrücklich auf Deutschland: Die Verfassungsschutzberichte stufen »legalistische« islamistische Gruppen wie die Bruderschaft, die auf direkte Gewalt verzichten, als besondere Gefahr ein.

Die Trump-Regierung stufte vier Zweige der Muslimbruderschaft (Ägypten, Jordanien, Libanon, Sudan) als Terrororganisationen ein. Ein Novum.

Vidino warnt zugleich vor überzogenen Erwartungen: Terrorlisten allein würden den Islamismus kaum zurückdrängen. Nötig sei ein grundlegender Wandel im Verständnis des Politischen Islam, beginnend auch bei einem Wissensdefizit in FBI und anderen US-Behörden. Islamistische Akteure finanzierten bereits landesweit politisch genehme Kandidaten bei US-Wahlen, und ausländische Staaten wie Katar förderten Universitäten mit entsprechenden Zielen.
