hiya new friends! i'm gamgee 👋
i'm a full time graphic designer, illustrator and emote artist for a selection of content creators. if you're looking for an artist and fancy a nosy, you can find my most recent work and my contact links etc over at https://t.co/p3Lmp5cOPl 😊
agreed, it's really not an open beta - it's a separate test branch that people need to install via their Steam library. really they should have promoted it as a PTR; it's literally a separate testing server for people who already own the game, the term 'Public Test Server' exists for this exact situation
@Urcle3@Farever_Game it's not really an open beta - it's a separate test branch that you need to install via the beta tab in your Steam library. really they should be calling it a PTR, it would avoid a lot of the confusion/questions I'm seeing people have
@CorrionTheReap@LynxarAD@KanikouEstellia May 2026! not long ago - they made huge deal about 'NOW EVERYONE CAN HAVE EMOTES AND SIGN UP FOR MONETIZATION SO PEOPLE CAN SUB AND USE YOUR EMOTES' etc but then omitted so many 'oh buts', it was pretty gross
in fairness, they didnt ask, i was just tryna be nice - Twitch eventually amended their emote FAQ after the uproar about it bc it was shitty asf
when they announced it, they said ALL monetized streamers can now have emotes (and also, unsurprisingly, added an new tier of streamer: 'monetized', a new tier alongside 'affiliate' and 'partner'. it wasn't until 1000s of users who then signed up and filled out forms to become monetized and then bought/commissioned/uploaded their emotes only to have to complain that they couldn't use them beyond their own channel that Twitch added the clause
as an emote artists who had a flurry of commissions after twitch announced that EVERYONE could have their own emotes, only for everyone to later find out that those emotes can only be used in one channel (they didn't mention that bit hmmmm) i really need to stop hoping. i had TWO different commissions who had all their friends sub to use my work/the emotes, only to find out that even paid subs cant use them globally.
i refunded them both so they could give back to their friends - i have a day job, i wasn't hurting for doing the nice thing, but it REALLY opened my eyes to the deceptive shit twitch will pull
@CorrionTheReap@LynxarAD@KanikouEstellia wait if streamers make $2.50 but have to pay $5, that's a 200% loss!!! thats even worse 😐 i will HOPE that twitch will play fair, but im not betting a dime
in a sane world i'd have scoffed at your comment, but i've been sat here doing crazy research on this for like 2 hours now, and have found that there is ZERO onus via the Directive (EU) 2023/2673 amendment wording etc that places equal bearing on Twitch??? like Twitch could, entirely legally, force the streamers to refund the full $5+ etc while they can stillpocket their 50%. e.g., it will be 100% legal under the EU Consumer Rights Directive for twitch to accept the $5 refund BUT force the streamer to pay for ALL of it out of pocket. there is ZERO failsafes or fairness protection for people working via middle men/third party service providers (twitch, ebay, amazon marketplace, you name it) and the new law makes NO provisions to enforce that both parties must refund the buyer/subber, which means twitch can literally make 50% profit while streamers make 100% losses.
and after all the shit twitch has pulled these past few years especially? i wouldnt put it past them to make FULL use of this
this has always been there - the right of withdrawal terms have always been a thing, we have always been able to request a refund in the EU. however, in about 2 hours, the new law will force twitch to add a 'withdraw from sub' button for all EU users that is present on both the 'manage your sub' pop out directly under every stream, and also on the subscriptions page, that guarantees them a refund, no questions asked.
unfortunately, once again, the EU is blanketing ALL recurring sub products/services under one umbrella :/ from amazon recurring subs on your toilet roll to twitch subscriptions to avoid ads, it's all the same to the EU. looking at the wording of this new law imposed by the EU (which for those interested is the amendment, Directive (EU) 2023/2673, to the EU Consumer Rights Directive, specifically) the one silver lining i can find is that this refund will NOT apply to gifted subs etc. gifted subs are considered a purchase, not a subscription, as they aren't recurring, so this law will not affect streamers re: their gifted subs and bits etc etc, as this law is specifically covering recurring subscriptions

looking at the wording of this new law imposed by the EU, no it wont apply to gifted subs. gifted subs are considered a purchase, not a subscription, as they aren't recurring, so this law will not affect streamers who get gifted subs, as this law is specifically covering recurring subscriptions :)
want to note that this is not me saying I approve of the move - i think this whole debacle is really sinister, but having seen a lot of discussions going on about enforcement etc where people seem to be thinking it'll be a full ban ('they'll block all VPN services/websites', 'the government knowing you're using a VPN defeats the point of anonymity' etc etc) just thought i'd add the specifics of the proposed bill
for clarity; they're not banning VPNs, they're just trying to force VPN services to verify that a user is 18 or older before supplying the service. if you're willing to prove that you're over 18, you can continue to use VPNs just fine, and the age verification will be one-time/account-based thing. once the provider has confirmed your age is 'valid', regardless of whether you use a paid or free service, your entire usage will continue to be anonymous etc
this is the exact law/bill/change being pushed:

with siv being what he is (derogatory), he has a lot to say, but so far literally ALL he's said was "i can word", showing that words together make a sentence. red flags: 1 green flags: 0
all jokes aside tho, gw1 was a totally stand out cult classic, and gw2 is one of the few MMOs to stand right beside WoW in terms of uniqueness, scale and depth. Anet have the dev skills and the willingness to try new things, which is what this genre really needs
will they fall short? maybe, but the fact they're trying is reason enough to support them. so many 'old school' inspired MMOs are releasing now and they're just missing the mark, because nostalgia governs our love for these games, not their standalone merit. if Anet are gonna be the studio to step up and finally try something new for MMOs, then i welcome it, bc the genre right now is stagnant, resting on its laurels, and completely uninspired
