Ash Wednesday is a Holy day of prayer & fasting in many Christian denominations. By Shrove Tuesday and falls on the 1st day of Lent. It is by Catholics in the Roman Rite, Lutherans, Moravians, Anglicans, Methodists, Nazarenes, & some churches in the Reformed tradition.

On Mardi Gras in 1827, a group of students wore colorful costumes & danced through the streets of New Orleans, emulating the revelry they’d observed while visiting Paris. 10 years later, the 1st recorded New Orleans Mardi Gras parade took place, a tradition that continues today
