And the original @CLASPappliances Hybrid Heat Homes report I wrote with @energysmartwv@mattxmal@spantano shows switching from central AC to Heat Pumps would be a smart idea for πΊπΈ as well: https://t.co/6PaIKKcjMG
Promising heat pump news! The Canadian Govt's new Green Building Strategy plans to explore requiring "installation of heat pumps instead of one-way central air conditioners in all new homes and certain retrofit scenarios." https://t.co/wNXsmypdfG
@cbarrie Perhaps Krippendorff (1980) "Content Analysis: An Introduction to Its Methodology." Sage. In the 2004 edition he's cautious about 0.8 ("I recommend such levels with considerable hesitation", p. 242), but I've seen some citations of "very good" to the earlier edition.
@fgenovese__ HSBC's estimates may well be spot-on. But even if they're right, I'd want to see a comparison with housing completions and sales of other heating devices before concluding that things were going off the rails.
@chrismbryant The headline here seems a bit off to me. A lot hinges on HSBC's estimate of Q4 sales growth. If you look at the actual EHPA data that's available so far, heat pump sales were actually slightly *higher* from Q1-Q3 in 2023 than in 2022.
New Job! Please share widely
Come work with me as the next 2yr climate postdoc @WatsonInstitute
Great colleagues, no teaching load. Be the next @GardMurray or @KateChelminski ! Non-resident remote work possible for 2024-25.

@BretDevereaux I'd argue that high energy prices are yet another reason to keep backing Ukraine. Backing off sends the message that Putin's energy blackmail worked.

@Fortgoose@NoNukeBailouts Oof, sorry for your rough experience! I'd expect newer units to perform better...
The path we recommend in our report includes backups, making sure that people have multiple options when it gets cold instead of relying on one piece of equipment.
@siumai007@GreenhouseInst@bdacanada@br_haley@EfficiencyCAN@sarah_kmiller@ClimateInstit An objective view is crucial! And objectively, having a heat pump and another backup heat source (which is what we model in the study) offers more redundancy and flexibility than a single heat source could. Plus the heat pump will handle the cooling in the summer.
We have millions of orphaned or abandoned oil and gas wells across the country that industry has not paid to clean up. Many of them are leaking. Climate pollution capture and storage should start right here!
