Do elephants remember who was kind to them?
Yes – and across decades. Our ex-orphans return to the stockades long after they've gone wild, recognise specific Keepers by name, and bring their wild-born calves home to introduce them. They even come back for help.
Last month, Melia walked her new daughter Moon to our Ithumba Reintegration Unit – sixteen years after we rescued her. She came back so the people who raised her could meet her calf.
Mental health challenges don’t discriminate; they impact anyone regardless of their background age or when they appear.
Let’s normalise mental health conversations so seeking help and sharing struggles feels safe and natural for everyone. Break the silence and end the shame. 💜 #itsokaytonotbeokay
Friends! Percy doesn’t seem to have learned his lesson after breaking Winnie-the-Pooh’s ear off. I just walked in to find this scene in front of me. Does he think he’s an ornament? Tut-tut, Percy!
Meet Zigi, the youngest of the wild-born babies at our Umani Springs Reintegration Unit.
He was born on 24 April 2025 to ex-orphan Zongoloni – her first calf, and the fourth wild-born of the Umani herd. He arrived after a 22-month pregnancy that kept our Keepers waiting; Zongoloni brought her old friends Ziwa and Faraja with her on the morning she went into labour.
Zigi is now just over a year old, sharing the Kibwezi Forest with his three slightly older friends – Mwana, Lenny and Sulwe. The Umani crèche is getting full.

Carers, i want to talk about carers i was getting carers allowance for many years before starting employment, when my son started his law degree 3 years ago young carers helped him with his accommodation its something some carers organisations do to support carers, they also are helping him with his robes that he will wear when he graduates next month, its not something we longer need support with but it was already sorted by carers, but im going to buy him his suit that goes underneath those robes, and I know he will probably only wear it once but there was a time I couldn't afford to do it,so im buying one, carers organisations are out there and they do help us as carers when we need it, be that young carers like my son or older ones like me.
Ryan was due to go on the minibus today. Unfortunately, the engine warning light came on and they were unable to go out, so instead, they went for a walk to a local park. Ryan was a little grumpy to begin with, but when he got there, he was happily playing on the giant roundabout spinner. He had a great time and did not want to leave. Changing Ryan's routine is not something that is done lightly, but sometimes it is necessary, and today he had a great time.

I’ve done a food shop - just basic stuff. No cleaning products but a pack of dog food
Treats were a fruit cake, pack of chocolate biscuits and a pack of rich tea fingers. No wine or soft drinks
How on earth does that come to over £70
Daba loves his pellets so much, he’ll even steal them from a blind black rhino.
Maxwell has lived at our Nairobi Nursery for nearly twenty years. The orphan elephants pass his enclosure on their way to and from the forest, and most of them stop. Daba has intentions that go beyond salutations, but despite his outright thievery, Maxwell doesn’t seem to mind!
If you’ve followed us for a while, you’ll know we’ve had plenty of greedy orphans to come through our care. Drop us a comment to tell us who has been your favourite orphan food thief?

The govt is doing a review of access to face-to-face banking. For many elderly and vulnerable people in person banking is crucial and we need to protect it. The review wants your view, you can feed in here... https://t.co/vcOGgz9l5i

On busy services, every seat counts. If you're in an aisle seat next to an empty window seat, please shimmy over if you can. This makes it easier for other passengers to sit down. Please also keep bags, pets and feet off the seats.
