Premiering December 1, 2025 on our YouTube Channel: The Moment We Stand
A story that confronts silence, challenges power, and exposes the lived realities of young women on our campuses, where 7 in 10 female students have experienced sexual harassment. It highlights the need for safer learning spaces for everyone across campus communities especially women and girls, where their voices are heard, their boundaries respected, and their futures protected.
As the world marks the 16 Days of Activism under the theme “Unite to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls,” this film becomes our reminder that harm, online or offline, must be met with collective action and accountability.
The moment we stand is the moment change begins.

A safe reporting system is a critical part of campus safety.
Our assessment in Anambra State reveals that 66.7% of institutions surveyed lacked survivor-centred reporting systems, highlighting gaps in how survivors of sexual harassment and related forms of violence can access support, report incidents, and seek justice.
Through the Campus Safety Initiative (CSI), we continue to work with tertiary institutions to strengthen prevention, response mechanisms, and accountability structures that prioritize survivors.

Through the Campus Safety Initiative (CSI), tertiary institutions are taking steps to operationalize Anti-Sexual Harassment Policies, strengthening systems for prevention, reporting, accountability, and support.
In Kaduna State, Al-Kausar College of Health Technology, AP Smart College of Health Science and Technology, and Lodestar School of Health and Technology have demonstrated institutional commitment by advancing the operationalization of these policies within their campuses.
Policies are only effective when they are backed by action. 💙
Our recent findings from 14 tertiary institutions surveyed in Akwa Ibom State reveal that only 7.1% had dedicated budgets to support the implementation of institutional policies.
This highlights the need for stronger commitment beyond policy development, including adequate resources, accountability structures, and sustainable systems that ensure policies translate into meaningful protection for students and staff.
Through the Campus Safety Initiative, we continue to work with institutions to strengthen policy implementation and build safer, more accountable learning environments.

Our recent survey across 11 tertiary institutions in Adamawa State reveals that 54.5% lacked survivor-centred reporting systems for addressing sexual harassment, highlighting a critical gap in ensuring that students have access to safe, confidential, and responsive support mechanisms.
Beyond awareness, creating safer learning environments requires institutions to build systems that encourage reporting, strengthen accountability, and protect survivors from further harm.
Through the Campus Safety Initiative, Gender Mobile Initiative continues to work with institutions to strengthen policies, reporting structures, and response mechanisms that promote safer campuses for all.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in safety. 💙
Child labour is not only a loss of childhood, it often exposes children, especially girls, to exploitation, abuse, and barriers that limit their future opportunities. Addressing it requires challenging the social norms and systems that allow children to be denied protection, dignity, and access to education.
At Gender Mobile Initiative, we continue to strengthen safer learning environments, promote accountability, and advocate for systems that protect young people from violence and exploitation.
Because protecting children today is an investment in a safer and more equitable tomorrow.

Understanding sexual harassment policies is the first step, but awareness must translate into action.
Our assessment across 13 tertiary institutions in Abia State reveals that while knowledge of anti-sexual harassment frameworks exists, critical gaps remain in policy availability, implementation, and institutional preparedness:
📌 61.5% of respondents demonstrated knowledge of key components that constitute an anti-sexual harassment policy, while 38.5% lacked accurate understanding.
🚫 66.7% of institutions reported not having a comprehensive, standalone anti-sexual harassment policy to guide prevention and response.
💰 Only 22.2% of institutions had budgetary allocation for policy implementation, limiting the ability to sustain prevention efforts and accountability mechanisms.
Creating safer learning environments requires more than awareness, institutions must invest in comprehensive policies, survivor-centered reporting systems, continuous training, and the resources needed for effective implementation.

Our latest findings reveal a critical gap in the fight against sexual harassment across 16 tertiary institutions in the FCT. While awareness is high, the infrastructure for support is severely underfunded and incomplete:
📉 68.8% of institutions have zero budgetary allocation for implementing these policies.
🚫 50% still lack a comprehensive, standalone anti-sexual harassment policy.
🏫 Only 25% have introduced vital training programs for faculty, staff, and students.
Good intentions aren't enough to protect students and staff. To ensure sustainability and real accountability, institutions must back their policies with dedicated resources and survivor-centered reporting systems.

Beyond the legal decision, the case continues to spotlight critical conversations around accountability, abuse of power, and the responsibility institutions have in ensuring safer learning environments for students and survivors.
Sexual harassment must never be normalized within academic spaces, and judicial decisions like this play an important role in strengthening trust in both institutional and justice systems.

The Court of Appeal has declined bail for convicted UNICAL law professor Cyril Ndifon pending the hearing of his appeal on sexual harassment charges.
Delivering its ruling, the court held that the application lacked merit, noting that sufficient evidence was not provided to support claims concerning his health condition and the inability of correctional facilities to provide adequate medical care.

Gender Mobile Initiative recently met with the Vice Chancellor, and members of the safeguarding team of the University of Abuja, now Yakubu Gowon University, to drive critical conversations around safeguarding, sexual harassment prevention, collaboration for the improvement of the University’s sexual harassment policy and its dissemination, and strengthening institutional capacity for trauma-informed, victim-centered investigation of sexual harassment cases.
Led by our Executive Lead, Barrister Omowumi Ogunrotimi, the engagement created space for honest dialogue on building more responsive, accountable, and survivor-centered systems that protect students and staff alike.
We commend the University leadership, led by Professor Hakeem Fawehinmi, for reaffirming its commitment to student welfare, and its openness to strengthening institutional response mechanisms through collaboration with our organization.
At GMI, we believe safer campuses require more than policy, they require systems, leadership, and sustained action. Together, we continue to advance learning environments where safety, dignity, and justice remain non-negotiable.
