Eliya Cohen bought an engagement ring for Ziv Abud on October 6th

They were attacked by Hamas at the Nova festival the next day. Eliya was held as a hostage for 505 days.

When they finally got married, Ziv jokingly said she hoped Al Jazeera was filming their wedding as the Qatari state TV channel had been propping up Hamas for years, hoping the terrorist movement would be able to eradicate the state of Israel and the Jewish people.

Their marriage and future children would prove Al Jazeera's and Hamas' hopes wrong.

When Hamas attacked the Nova festival. Eliya and Ziv fled with 25 other people into the roadside shelter that would become known as the “shelter of death.”

Ziv’s nephew Amit, and his girlfriend Karin were among the 16 murdered in that shelter.

Ziv survived, buried beneath the bodies of victims, while Eliya was shot in the leg and dragged into Gaza.

For 505 days, Eliya was held captive in Gaza, bound in chains, hung by his feet, tortured and burned.

All that time, he assumed that Ziv had been killed. After his release, he was overjoyed when finding out that the love of his life had survived the massacre in the roadside shelter.

They quickly got married.

Under the Chupah, Ziv said she hoped Al Jazeera was broadcasting the wedding. She said Hamas had tried to separate two souls but instead got a Jewish wedding
