It was a pleasure to talk to @jacob_luetzow on the Elixir Mentor podcast this week. We discussed agentic engineering, my time at @gauntletai, the future of software and why no matter what happens I'm still bullish on Elixir.

And this is exactly why you cannot be allowed to live in our societies. I do care if the eiffel tower collapses. I care about that far more than whether or not you can eat or sleep. I dont care about you at all. You are a net negative, as you are proving here.
It’s as if Macron doesn’t want to win the next election.
It’s as if he has a big fancy job waiting for him with more pay, more perks and less stress - which of course he does.
When people talk about “low trust societies” this is the kind of thing they mean. It’s not just about safety. It’s about things working as advertised, businesses doing what they say they’ll do — for example, you can hop in a rickshaw and be taken where you expect to go, you’ll pay the agreed price and there’ll be no trouble, and you never have any reason to think twice.
If you grew up in a rich, safe, homogenous Western country then the above may be all you’ve ever known, but most of the world is not like this at all.
The thirdworldification of Britain continues.
Yet another London failure.
I am a member of a group who advises people about what to do and where to go in London.
A young American woman in the group had an appalling experience at the weekend. She went to the theatre to see a musical.
Her friends wanted to go out afterwards but she preferred to go back to the hotel.
She could not get a black cab and did not want to risk a minicab. So she took a rickshaw. You know the type: lit up like Blackpool illuminations and blaring out music.
She thought they were licensed. They are not: the mayor has been talking about that for years but it won’t be in place until 2027.
Anyway, just her and one “not English” guy cycling.
As they came closer to the hotel she said they ended up in a really quiet alley. He stopped and suggested taking her photo using her phone. She refused. She did not want to hand over her phone and did not feel safe. They had quite an argument about it. She said she would just pay and walk the rest of the way.
Then two other men appeared. Now she really was scared and offered the £30 agreed fare cash. The driver (and the two men) insisted that she pay by credit card.
They started to say that she had to pay double if she paid in cash.
At that point, a couple turned the corner and instantly the two men vanished, the driver took the £30 and she was left alone.
If that couple had not turned up I don’t know what would have happened.
She had a photo from inside the rickshaw and is submitting it to the police today but it is not easy to identify the driver.
This is not the first time I have heard of such a scam. One tourist was told the fare came to £200 because it was “a tour” and not a ride to the restaurant. Despite it being no such thing.
London scammers in plain sight.
One of my favourite pieces of pedantic trivia is that this trope is historically inaccurate. Oil was way too expensive to waste by throwing it over someone! To defend your castle you threw boiling water.
History appears to be repeating itself.
Your "civilization" is the one that enables your present lifestyle as a raving, ungrateful fantasist for whom the destruction of property is the equivalent of a child throwing his toys out of a pram because he knows mother will pick them up for him
Traveling in the EU makes me remember the great freedoms the UK has reclaimed with Brexit.
Like that annoying EU cookie pop-up requirement. The UK is now free to abolish it and reclaim billions of unnecessary mouse clicks every year.
Of course, we haven’t actually removed it. But I sleep soundly in the knowledge that we could do so if we liked.
That’s real freedom.
The best thing about the flying Roadster isn’t that it’s cool, impressive, or a reason to be excited for the future. It’s that it gave all the usual suspects yet another opportunity to out themselves as pathetic, whiney, hateful losers who contribute nothing and can only feel good about themselves by tearing down other people’s accomplishments.
It’s useful to know who you can safely ignore.
Unveiling the Roadster with out-of-this-world technology reiterated that Musk has given up designing cars for regular people to drive. https://t.co/tMAjnw4xk8
Reminder: just yesterday we learned that:
A) a former ISIS guard for a beheading squad came to yookay illegally on a boat, obviously because of the ECHR/HRA he can't be jailed or deported, living freely;
B) SAS guys sent on missions to deal with ISIS beheaders were then arrested for MURDER for dealing with them; they were lied to by the military police; they have been told they can never be clear of the charges (because the ECHR/HRA means any time some lawyer like Jolyon or Hermer wants to team up with nutters on a ECHR case, the government will be forced to investigate again and remember Hermer's friend *invented* war crimes to bring cases against British soldiers, but obviously wasn't jailed, triples all round in the Inner Temple).
So we're importing the jihadis at scale while prosecuting for murder SAS we rely on to defend us from the jihadis - and if you don't like this you're fascist and it's a reason to ban X in yookay.
No you will not see Kemi-kasi campaign on these issues because the Tories agreed with Labour for 25 years that this combination is 'defending civilisation'. The Tories imported many of the jihadis now in the news, and the Tories approved all the worst officials and lawyers in SW1 bringing the lawfare cases, including against those who were given medals by the Queen for stopping IRA terrorist attacks - they now have to beg for cash for lawyers in their 70s/80s.
And because Reform is a bin fire which can't maintain focus on anything for 2 minutes -- like Kemi-kasi -- you probably won't see anything sustained from them either.
@ReturnofVlad Downing Street is a completely inappropriate location for an execution.
Is the controversy because he should have said he’d execute them publicly at Tyburn?
@Andrey4Mir@wesyang You must not be a coder. LLMs are vastly, enormously, hugely better at software engineering than they were a year ago. The entire industry has been transformed beyond recognition.
