Somehow, I can’t believe it’s been 17 years since we lost our Jimmy. It feels like only yesterday. People often say that time is a healer, but I’m not so sure.

This past year has been one of the most challenging yet. Being diagnosed with cancer again in October and not being able to work for nearly four months was incredibly difficult. But thanks to the amazing care from my medical team at Lewisham Hospital, I’m doing okay, just a little tired now and then.

With the news back in January, it was an incredibly painful time for all of us. We had to relive so much of the hurt and heartbreak from 17 years ago, brought back into the spotlight in a way we never expected. It was deeply upsetting, not just for us but for many who knew and loved Jimmy.

But as ever, we were determined not to let it define us. We chose once again to bring something good out of something so painful, to focus on hope, on peace, and on the young people who continue to be inspired by Jimmy’s story.

Although I had to pause school visits for a while, it’s been a busy year. Since January, Barry and I have had the privilege of speaking to thousands of young people all across the country. We’ve met so many young people who have listened to Jimmy’s story and made a promise to be part of the change.

People often ask me what they can do to help. On Saturday 6 July, we’ll be walking through London in our sea of yellow t-shirts for Walking for Jimmy. Why not join us? It would mean so much to have you with us, helping to share Jimmy’s legacy of forgiveness, peace and hope.

Not a day goes by that I don’t think of our beautiful Jimmy. I give thanks for his life every single day. He was a beautiful boy who loved his family and friends deeply.

This morning, Margaret and Barry had the pleasure of visiting The Lions Centre at @Millwall_MCT, where local schools came together to play for the Jimmy Mizen Cup.

Dear friends,

I wanted to share an update with you all regarding Jake Fahri, the man responsible for Jimmy's tragic death. Recently, his parole hearing took place, and it has been decided that he will be released in the next few weeks. Many of you may have already come across this news.

Anticipating this outcome did not make it any easier for us, and upon hearing the news yesterday, it resurfaced all the emotions from that fateful day, May 10th, 2008. Some may argue that he should remain inside for life. However, we must hold onto hope and pray that the parole board has made the right decision and that Jake Fahri will no longer pose a threat to our communities. Only time will reveal the truth.

In spite of these challenges, our message remains unwavering. We choose forgiveness, peace, and hope. Jimmy's legacy will live on through our work in promoting the good in young people.

15 years…

‘I can’t believe how time is going so quickly. After his death, Jimmy was known as the boy who Sparkled ✨ and the Gentle Giant; when I think about that, it makes me smile. Everything about Jimmy was a delight, and we all miss him so much, but we can’t change things as much as I’d like to. I want to hold him in my arms, cuddle him and tell him I love him; however, I can’t.

It’s really important to me, and I think the rest of the family, that we keep his name alive and work for Forgiveness, Peace & Hope. We will never forget the kindness of so many people after we lost Jimmy, the number of people that brought food around to our house, we had enough food to feed all the people in our home and garden, and it was a lot.

I often think of Jimmy’s friends whom he loved, and I’m sure many are probably married with children now. I suppose I can only think of Jimmy as being 16 to me; he’s the boy who will never grow up.

So today, I would like to thank you all for the love and kindness you have shown us over these last years; we will always be grateful for the support we have and continue to get.
