What happens when filmmakers, storytellers, activists, survivors, champions and allies come together 🤔

✨A magical evening✨

Together with @GirlsNotBrides, @CIFFchild, the Government of Canada and the @FCDOGovUK, we hosted an inspiring space for conversation, commitments and connections to #EndChildMarriage ❌

🎬The event was anchored on Nawi, a remarkable film on child marriage, which was also Kenya’s official selection for Best International Feature Film at this year’s Oscar Academy Awards.

The event also featured statements from our Director Fanta K. Toure; CEO of Girls Not Brides Dr. Faith Mwangi-Powell; Barbara Curran from the Government of Canada; and Dr. Obiageli Ezekewesili from CIFF.

One of our favourite moments from the evening was seeing guests engage with our #DearFutureMe campaign, reading letters written by girls from different parts of the world, and making their commitments to support the dreams, hopes, wishes and aspirations of these girls.

"Close your eyes and picture a girl in your life—someone you’d do anything to protect. Now imagine her becoming a child bride.

Will you stand with us to ensure every girl has a bright, safe future?"

The speakers reminded us of the personal stories driving every actor in the ecosystem, the challenges that come with resisting harmful social norms, the cost to the lives, growth and wellbeing of survivors and activists.

There is an urgent need to resource the work of community-based organizations, especially in the current geopolitical reality.
