To be honest, most teams' parent companies are wealthy enough to pull this off without making a huge dent financially.

But then, it's very easy for me to say because it's not my money. 😂

Ideally, CPBL teams should be doing everything they can to keep Liu Jen-Yu, one of Taiwan's top high school pitching talents, in Taiwan and entering the CPBL draft.

Unfortunately, team owners are too stupid and short-sighted to realise how important retaining top young talent is

17 year old Jen-Yu Liu started today for Taiwan against South Korea at the U18 Asian Championship. The Taiwanese ace went 5 no-hit innings with 6 strikeouts and topped out at 96 MPH in the 1st inning. He should be signed by an MLB organization later this year

Japan and Korea: Let us try to protect our domestic leagues by keeping our high school talents.

Taiwan: Please, MLB & NPB, come and strip our talent pool bare at the roots level.

The saddest thing is that some Taiwanese sportsball fans actually think this is a good thing.

@dodgerslite Well, it is their decision. Just like in life, sometimes you can't have the best of both worlds, have to pick one.

There's also the posting route after completing 3 years of service.

No one is stopping them from going overseas. They can still do it, but just without safety net.

@dodgerslite How is that stripping away their freedom? It's their decision to skip the league, so why should they still get the safety net of a CPBL contract if their MLB or NPB journey doesn't work out?

@koreancardboard @dodgerslite Currently they can skip the draft and come back (entering the draft) without any penalty. This is why most top high school talents decide to go MLB and NPB after high school.

@dodgerslite I think you're underestimating the power of not having a retirement contract. Also, how can a league grow when all the young top talents are being drained away by MLB and NPB?

@dodgerslite That's the purpose of removing the safety net. This and increasing the signing bonus to a reasonable level of course.

@dodgerslite Who cares about them not wanting to play for Taiwan on the national stage. I care about the development of Taiwan's domestic league, which is going to generate more talents.

@Skramerwrites @Jeffbak94995674 Increase the signing bonuses and remove the ultimate safety net for players who skip the CPBL draft.

If they fail in the MLB or NPB system, then they can not play in the CPBL. It's harsh, but it's the right way to do it.

@Jeffbak94995674 In my opinion, by doing nothing, nothing will change. Simply saying "it isn't there yet" is not a good excuse for not taking action now.
