The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. We've been fighting for working people since 1887 and represent 140,000 workers across skilled trades.
The foundation of this country wasn’t built by CEOs or laid by hedge fund managers. It was built by union workers.
Today, more than ever, we need you in this fight.
There are a lot of misconceptions about what being a union member means. But once you try it for yourself, you’ll never go back.
As Omar Rodriguez, apprentice in Local 101, District Council 5, said, “In the IUPAT, you get treated like family.”
Bea Lumpkin was a giant of our labor movement. She stood with working people everywhere in the fight for workers’ rights, civil rights and education rights.
She embodied solidarity—and we’ll use her inspiration to keep fighting for a more just world for all. Rest in power ✊
Congratulations to Local 154, District Council 30 executive board members, Steve Muscat and Arturor Martinez, Sr., on their retirement!
Your dedication has paved the way for other members. Thank you for serving your union as President and Warden, and enjoy your well-deserved retirement!
Shout out to @DC9_IUPAT and the Finishing Trades Institute of New York for providing the tools – literally and figuratively – to workers who now have a shot at entering the middle-class!

Congratulations to Liana Conaser of Local 1293, District Council 77, on completing her IUPAT Industrial Painter Apprenticeship and earning her Journeyworker status!
Liana’s accomplishment reflects years of hard work and dedication, and she should be incredibly proud of what she has achieved. She works for TVA Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant.
Congratulations, Sister! We can’t wait to see all that you accomplish in the years ahead. 📷
Part of our responsibility as union members is to help our brothers and sisters, on and off the job.
Whether that’s sharing your tools, providing mental health support, or in Giovannie Martinez-Vega’s case, helping with translation, we all have a role to play to strengthen our bonds and improve our union!
Members of Local 963, District Council 51, who work for signatory contractor Ridgeview Glass Inc. are changing the face of our nation’s capital! Thank you for all your work.
“Are you afraid of heights?”
That’s the first thing Cordell Smith’s friend asked him when he considered joining Local 636. Luckily he said no, and he’s now an apprentice! We’re so happy you’re with us, Cordell.
Painters push for diversity and inclusion in their union. In an exclusive interview, their president, Jimmy Williams, outlines refreshing approach to building the labor movement.

Industrial painters are public safety workers.
Coating structural steel is dangerous and hazardous, and safety is paramount – both for the workers themselves and for all of the people who drive on bridges, use water from water towers, and utilize energy from refineries.
The public is dependent on our members’ work to maintain steel structures, and we are proud to protect our communities!
We want to send our heartfelt congratulations to @LizShuler and @STRedmond for their re-election to lead the AFL-CIO. The IUPAT is deeply grateful for your work and leadership! https://t.co/vVHWqfuc0s
Convention delegates from across the nation’s largest labor federation reelected @LizShuler and @STRedmond to lead the AFL-CIO today, as president and secretary-treasurer. https://t.co/J42TqlSiaZ
His story is not just about one worker. It’s about the principle that every worker deserves dignity, due process, and the freedom to provide for their family without fear.
The Trump administration’s mass deportation agenda is bad for our jobs, our communities, our economy and our labor movement.
@LIUNA President Brent Booker is right: an attack on immigrant workers is an attack on ALL workers!
District Council 17 just wrapped up their most recent Level 1 Painter Decorator course – check out the students’ beautiful work!
Our apprenticeship program teaches students commercial and industrial (and in DC 17’s case, residential!) painting to set them up for a well-rounded, successful career. Looking forward to seeing how these students continue to grow in their second and third years – and beyond!
Across Houston, @GoIUPAT Glaziers Local 1778 are on an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike against Spring Glass & Mirror!
☎️ CALL Spring Glass now and tell them to respect the union: https://t.co/iqtOMRqH5J
Congratulations to the new officers of Local 2015, District Council 3!
Every leader in the IUPAT is tasked with organizing the unorganized, attending union meetings, defending the union's constitution, and treating their fellow union brothers and sisters with respect, fairness, and charity.
Thank you for serving our mighty union!
Glaziers in Local 1778, District Council 10 are on strike!

Workers need to grow their POWER and make sure we send leaders to office that will fight for us, not giant corporations.
We’re committed to mobilizing 2 million more voters than the previous midterm elections. Working people need real leadership NOW and we’re fighting for it.
