My success is not because of my partner - Hilda Baci
Chef Hilda Baci has criticised the mindset of people who attribute her success to her partner, saying such comments show how much society still needs to change its attitude towards women.
Baci said she finds the remarks upsetting, even though they do not necessarily annoy her, because they overlook the effort women put into building their own careers.
In a video shared by Goldmyne TV, she said the comments reflect how people view women and their achievements.
“It is sometimes upsetting but I think that it just goes to show where we are as people and what the mindset is,” she said.
The chef added that she is intentional about representing women and creating opportunities for them to become successful.
“That’s why I’m so intentional about putting in so much effort in representing myself, representing women and just giving more women an opportunity to do better for themselves as well,” she said.

Tinubu, Obi disagree on ₦15.8trn fuel subsidy savings
A fresh political face-off has erupted between former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and supporters of President Bola Tinubu over the ₦15.8 trillion saved from fuel subsidy removal, with Obi demanding an account of how the money was spent and the City Boy Movement insisting the funds were never sitting in government coffers for distribution.
The clash followed an open letter by Obi challenging Tinubu to justify the use of subsidy savings, over $100 billion in borrowings and increased government revenues, amid persistent poverty, insecurity, poor electricity supply and failing public services.
Obi, in the letter on Saturday, demanded concrete figures on Nigerians lifted out of poverty, out-of-school children returned to classrooms and functional primary healthcare centres built, insisting that citizens deserved measurable returns on the resources entrusted to the government.
But the City Boy Movement, through its National Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response, Bashir Ahmad, dismissed Obi’s position as a politically convenient narrative, arguing that subsidy savings and government borrowings must be assessed within the broader context of economic reforms and national expenditure.
Obi, who reacted to Tinubu’s recent overnight visit to Akwa Ibom State, urged the President to extend his visits to the remaining 33 states of the federation and engage directly with Nigerians on the impact of his administration’s economic policies.
The former Anambra governor questioned what the government had achieved with the resources available to it, demanding figures on the number of Nigerians lifted out of poverty, out-of-school children returned to classrooms and functional primary healthcare centres constructed.
He also challenged the administration to account for improvements in electricity supply and security, insisting that Nigerians deserved measurable evidence of how public resources had been deployed.
According to Obi, the government must explain what it had done with the ₦15.8 trillion in subsidy savings, the over $100 billion borrowed and additional revenues generated through increased taxation and improved government earnings.
“Nigerians deserve answers. They deserve to know what has been done with the resources entrusted to your government,” he declared.
He argued that accountability, transparency and measurable improvements in citizens’ living conditions must form the foundation of a new Nigeria.
Obi also recalled Tinubu’s promise that Nigerians should not vote for him if he failed to fix electricity, questioning how much progress had been made in the power sector.
He further expressed concern that Nigeria remained among the world’s most terrorised countries despite the government’s security efforts.
However, the City Boy Movement, through its National Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response, Bashir Ahmad, rejected what it described as a politically convenient interpretation of the subsidy savings and other government revenues.
In a response titled *“Good Day, Mr Peter Obi,”* Ahmad argued that the ₦15.8 trillion cited by Obi should not be presented as money sitting in a government account awaiting distribution.
He maintained that subsidy savings, borrowing and increased government revenue must be assessed within the broader context of the economic reforms and financial challenges confronting the country.
“The N15.8 trillion cited as subsidy savings, for instance, should not automatically be treated as money sitting in a government account waiting to be distributed,” Ahmad said.
He also defended government borrowing, arguing that it was not inherently evidence of failure, but should be judged by how responsibly the funds were utilised, the benefits of investments and the sustainability of the country’s debt.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu have returned to Abuja following the conclusion of presidential campaign rallies in Akwa Ibom and Rivers States
The President’s engagements formed part of activities ahead of the 2027 general election.
Obi Demands Tinubu’s Scorecard, Questions ₦15.8trn Subsidy Savings, $100bn Loans
The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to account for the ₦15.8 trillion reportedly saved from petrol subsidy removal, more than $100 billion in borrowings and increased government revenues since his administration assumed office.
Obi made the demand in a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, reacting to Tinubu’s overnight stay in Akwa Ibom State on Friday.
In the statement titled ‘Good Day, Mr President: Nigerians Deserve Accountability’, Obi congratulated the President on spending a night in a state outside Lagos and Abuja but urged him to extend such visits to the remaining 33 states of the federation.
He said the President should use the opportunity to interact with Nigerians and explain what his administration had done with the resources available to the Federal Government.
“I congratulate you on spending a night in one of Nigeria’s states outside Lagos and Abuja. I hope you enjoyed the warmth, hospitality, and delicious cuisine of Akwa Ibom, which I am sure is even better than those of the destinations where you have spent over 260 days outside Nigeria since coming into office”, he said.
Obi expressed hope that the visit would encourage Tinubu to travel to other parts of the country, spend time with citizens and give an account of his administration’s performance.
He specifically demanded explanations on the utilisation of the ₦15.8 trillion reportedly saved from petrol subsidy removal, more than $100 billion borrowed by the government, increased revenues from taxation and additional earnings which the administration said had exceeded its revenue target last year.
The NDC presidential candidate said Nigerians deserved to know how these resources had translated into improvements in their living conditions.
He asked the President to provide figures showing the number of Nigerians lifted out of poverty since the administration came into office, as well as the number of out-of-school children returned to classrooms.
Obi also demanded details of the number of functional primary healthcare centres built by the government and the extent to which electricity supply had improved.

“They also deserve an explanation of how much electricity supply has improved, especially given your promise that if you do not fix power, Nigerians should not vote for you”, he said.
On security, Obi said the government also owed Nigerians an explanation of its efforts to secure the country, which he noted remained among the most terrorised countries in the world.
He insisted that citizens deserved to know what had been done to address insecurity and the results achieved with the resources committed to the sector.
“Mr President, Nigerians deserve answers. They deserve to know what has been done with the resources entrusted to your government”, he said.
Obi said the Nigeria he envisaged would be built on accountability, transparency and the measurable impact of public resources on the lives of citizens.
He stressed that the success of government spending should be reflected in tangible improvements in the welfare of Nigerians.
“The New Nigeria we want to build will be based on accountability, transparency, and the physical, measurable impact of our public resources on the lives of citizens”, he said.
The former Anambra State governor ended his statement by reaffirming his belief that a new Nigeria was possible.
Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, and announced the removal of the petrol subsidy during his inauguration, a policy that was followed by significant increases in petrol prices and the cost of transportation and other essential goods and services.
The administration has since pursued measures to increase government revenue, including tax reforms, while relying on domestic and external borrowing to finance public expenditure.
"Nigerians are talking about hunger, but I am cleaning up the mess created by previous governments. Atiku Abubakar was part of those governments. Ask him how he managed to build a university while serving as Vice President."
