Every patent application requires examiners to search through an enormous and growing body of research. At the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), AI is helping make that process faster and more focused, giving examiners more time to apply their expertise and judgment.
Matthew Such, Acting Assistant Commissioner for Patents, has helped lead USPTO’s AI efforts from the beginning, developing tools that surface relevant information and reduce time spent searching.
At the November 6 AI Summit, Such will discuss where USPTO sees the greatest potential for agentic AI, the challenges of putting it to work and how the agency is measuring its impact on efficiency.

The VA’s National Cemetery Administration rolled out upgraded software at 100 kiosks across 83 national cemeteries, adding QR codes that help visitors navigate grounds by smartphone and connect to the Veterans Legacy Memorial, VA’s digital platform with biographical information about veterans interred at its cemeteries.
Officials say the next step is a prototype augmented reality app that could display a veteran’s biography when a visitor points a phone at a headstone.
