The fact that understandings of race and nation have changed over the years doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

Irish and Italians were never considered to be non-white. There were various issues stemming from massive amounts of immigrations of those groups and religious differences that fed it.

What you are doing is painting a picture of a more strict understanding of race and immigration, which is not helping your arguement.
