Please make sure you and your children are up to date with your measles vaccines. Measles is one of the most contagious diseases and is not always benign. It can lead to long term disability and can even be fatal. Please protect yourselves & the vulnerable. @BCFamilyDoctors #bced
Influenza is on the rise in Canada.
We know how to deal with this
Get vaccinated.
Stay home when sick.
Ventilation and air purification.
Mask in crowded indoor public spaces and transit.
Wash your hands.
Protect yourselves and your kids.

Good to see our multidisciplinary team work finally published - "Science tells us that portable air filters reduce infections. It's time for public health authorities to make this clear"

⚠️BREAKING
Reported in @NEJM today.

The D1.1 virus circulating in BC birds almost KILLED this 13 yr old in less than 96 hours.
She presented in multi-organ failure 3 days after mild conjunctivitis.
Her lungs were WHITE-OUTS.👇👇
Only modern day organ support (ECMO/CVVHDF) saved her.

This is outrageous.
First Avian flu case in Canada, the teen affected went to the ICU. But they aren't using airborne precautions.
So this could spread to any number of health care workers on that unit, and further beyond.
We have learned absolutely nothing.
I spoke with @EmilyLazatin about Avian flu. While not a cause for panic yet, preparation is key. Schools should improve ventilation; parents, ensure kids' vaccines are up to date. Stay home when sick. Stay away from sick/dead birds. @GlobalBC#bcpoli

Half a dozen households around me (my own included) getting Covid in the last week. 1 patient death from Covid pneumonia (complicated by blood clots from covid infection) few weeks ago. Paxlovid now harder to get. Be careful out there.. #covid19BC
@WestcoastBCLife I have 2 kids in my practice with recent extended hospitalization & ICU stay from streptococcal pneumonia + another virus. Previously healthy. A relief they survived but quite a scare. Other family members also infected. Exposed family members all told to take antibiotics.
