If the guilty verdicts against Manchester City stand then Liverpool will have suffered more than anyone. As well as two title near misses under Jurgen Klopp and the defeat to City in the 2016 League Cup final, there was the 2013-14 title race when Brendan Rodgers’ side were dramatically beaten to the big prize by City.
If Manchester City had played by the rules and not possessed such squad depth would Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, whose cruel slip against Chelsea proved so costly, have got the crowning glory to his career that he craved?
The prospect of titles being reallocated seems unlikely. Football is about memories and moments, and they can’t be restored years after the events.
The sheer scale of City’s offences provides vindication for FSG, who for so long argued that that the rules weren’t being either properly respected or enforced.
But this is no victory. How can it be when you were robbed of so much by financial doping?

The news that Manchester City have been found guilty of almost all of the Premier League charges against them sent shockwaves through the sporting world on Friday.
City believe the fight is far from over and remain bullish, but those at other clubs view the story through a very different prism.
For some there was an almost celebratory mood, while for others attention turned swiftly to the direct impact on their own club.
The Athletic has spent the weekend talking to people at clubs and organisations across Europe. This is how they view the situation.

Steve Parish talks about Liverpool's summer interest in Ismaila Sarr:
“It’s unfortunate with Ismaila, but that wasn’t really a situation that was of our doing. A club (Liverpool) came in and, with the amount of money they bid, they couldn’t seriously think in that market it was going to get done at that level, and then they didn’t come back in for him.
“If you’re selling players for £90m and then you want to bid us half of that for the replacement, it’s fine, you can do it. I’m not criticising anybody for doing it. But it’s not going to happen.
“You could understand Ismaila would have liked to go and if it wasn’t five days before the end of the window and the money was right, then we would have tried to facilitate it."
