I think the argument that Andoni Iraola has never won a trophy or coached a top club is a very lazy one from some Liverpool fans.
There are many coaches who had never won anything before being appointed by a bigger club, yet they transformed those teams and went on to achieve great success.
Examples include Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, Luis Enrique at Barcelona, Jürgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, and Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid. There are many more examples as well.
Enzo Maresca is another example. He quickly implemented his ideas and won silverware. Big clubs have the resources to help a coach succeed, provided the coach is capable and hardworking.
Modern fans often want managers with big names, but judging a coach solely on trophies or previous clubs is a lazy argument.
What matters most is the coach's ideas, ability to improve players, and whether they can build a successful team.
Arne Slot deserves immense gratitude for delivering a Premier League title, and even more so, for the care and grace he showed while guiding the club through the grief of losing Diogo Jota.
But Liverpool have made the right decision to let him go. Conditions have changed, what they need now is not the same as when he was appointed, and there wasn’t evidence that he could fix the problems nor handle the next phase.
The fans have spoken snd they have been heard!!!! and rightly so and the club have listened and done the right thing. Now let’s get someone in, and get Liverpool FC back to where it belongs, playing exciting aggressive football and challenging on all fronts. YNWA
Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is under way.
He leaves with a Premier League title to his name and our deepest gratitude and appreciation.
Dear @John_W_Henry, @Linda_Pizzuti and @FenwaySportsGrp.
I write this to you on behalf of Liverpool’s fanbase, as we care about the football club dearly and are extremely worried about it’s current state.
Arne Slot is not the man to be Liverpool’s manager next season.
It doesn’t matter what the data and computers say, logic and simply watching the way Liverpool play currently shows us that he is terrible tactically and also in no way adapting. He’s also not willing to identify himself as the main problem, always blaming everything else.
Never have Liverpool’s fans booed a manager at Anfield, nor felt this disconnected from the football club. There will be a significant drop off in merchandise sales and interest club world wide next season and onwards, if this is not fixed.
No, there aren’t mitigating circumstances for Liverpool’s performances this season. Injuries weren’t that bad and the terribly sad passing of our number 20, Diogo Jota, is in my eyes something that should be used as an inspiration to go and win for him, rather than an excuse. He would never have wanted it that way.
Arne Slot’s falling out with Mohamed Salah earlier this season is also something we all find shocking. The egyptian has done so much for the football club over the last 9 seasons and deserves nothing but the best. If he comes out and worries about the coach, it speaks VOLUMES. Listen to him. He should be at the club next season, rather than Arne Slot.
Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes are also not free from criticism here.
They are allowing this club to implode and it’s horribly hard to stand and watch. They haven’t a clue what direction to lead it into, regardless of their prior success.
People say you either die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain. The latter is the case for the 3 individuals of our hierarchy mentioned above.
Cut ties, appoint Xabi Alonso (or whoever else you find to be the most fitting for the job, which includes understanding the Liverpool way, the fans etc.).
PLEASE, let us all start next season with a clean slate, some good new signings and a manager that knows how to take the club forward.
That manager is not Arne Slot.
It’s time to make Liverpool great again and put it on the pedestal it deserves to be.
Yours sincerely,
The entire Liverpool fanbase
I do not care what’s going on with injuries….. reigning premier league champions should NOT have the same amount of loses as 2 promoted teams Leeds and Sunderland. Slot has to go that is NOT acceptable, the buck lies with you, and managers have gone for less a lot less.
FSG how on earth do you see something totally different to what I see and 99.9% of the fans see? To think next season will be any better under this management. Do you have unlimited funds we dont know about?.
Enough of the excuses now, yes injuries don’t help but every team has injuries, but this is enough now, Slot can not be the manager next season, cos this style of football is not Liverpool. Don’t tell me he won the league last season, he’s got to go end of. #LIVCHE
Man United fans: "You have only won 2 Premier Leagues."
Liverpool fans: "We have won 20 league titles. A name change doesn't change that fact."
United fans: "You only won 2 and are barely better than Leicester. Just a small club in reality."
Liverpool fans: "United haven't even won the Premier League yet."
United fans: "Yes we have? We have won it 13 times."
Liverpool fans: "No you haven't. No team has won 13 Premier League titles."
United fans: "What are you on about? We have won the Premier League 13 times."
Liverpool fans: "No you haven't. You haven't even won 1 Premier League title. You haven't even been in a title race for a Premier League title!"
United fan: "Yes we have. Prove we haven't."
Liverpool fan: "Ok. The Premier League has only been called The Premier League since 2016. You haven't won the league since before that, so you haven't won the Premier League and you aren't even on par with Leicester."
92-93: FA Premier League 93-01: FA Carling Premiership 01-04: FA Barclaycard Premiership 04-07: FA Barclays Premier League 07-16: Barclays Premier League 16-?: Premier League
United fan: "But, but that doesn't count. It's still the same league."
Liverpool fan: "I know. It's always been the same league. We've tried telling you this but you're too thick to get it!"
I was a Liverpool fan way before I became a pro footballer. As someone who genuinely cares & watches every single game… This is a disaster. Slot, you won the league last year with a style of play and DNA of Liverpool that Klopp built. This team is now close to unrecognisable…
Liverpool got out ran again today, and Brighton had a 40 year old playing in midfield. We are cooked, champions league football next season no chance. Thank you Mr Slot for the premier league title and your service but I wish you all the best next season on your future endeavours
