But there’s one important catch.
Daniel wasn’t actually playing to maximize tournament equity. He was primarily playing for the bracelet and the fame that came with it.
Under that objective, the optimal strategy was much closer to chipEV, which means the opponent’s 98o shove was actually a blunder.
The better play would be to open to 3bb.
You have all seen this spot:
27bb deep, @RealKidPoker called a SB open shove with TT as the middlestack and lost the tournament in 4th place to 98o.
So, who outplayed whom?
Was shoving 98o a mistake? Or should Daniel have folded TT?
Find out here 👇
Well, we are playing some good poker.
Not so sure this guy understood that DNegs is not going to make ICM folds here, but alas! 😂
86% chance to have a big chip lead.
On to the next!
Will fire up the stream again in about an hour folks and engage with chat.

With 5% of the field left, we're deep into the tournament and the ICM has a strong impact on our strategy. The solution, with identical stack distribution, shows a clear shift. The folding range stays roughly the same, but the split between jamming and raising changes: We jam 7% less and raise 4.5% more. Offsuited low-Ax combos and several suited hands that previously stacked off preflop now prefer the raising option instead. We have to play more cautious, once pay jumps are this close.
You're in the CO with 13bb. GTO shoves 22.8% of range and open-raises 8.7% of range. What's the biggest shift you'd expect comparing this Chip EV spot to its ICM (5% of the field left) equivalent?

Everyone recognizes the calling station at the table easily. Few know how to get the maximum out of them.
@fivecardguy, who beat 10/20 PLO for years targeting these players, breaks down their biggest leaks and an exploit so simple it almost feels unfair.
Then he uses nodelocks to test the concept.

The opponent is ignoring ICM.
How do we exploit that?
On the bubble, short stacks are forced to tighten their opening ranges. dramatically. In this spot, BTN can only open about 27% of hands because both blinds cover him.
Now everything changes.
Because SB isn't applying enough pressure, BTN can profitably expand his opening range from 27% to over 45% of hands, even as a short stack facing two bigger stacks.
