Last year, more than 2,000 patients in Hong Kong were taken to hospital by helicopter. But who’s providing the medical care on board?
We turned to Professor Arthur Cheung, from @HKUMed_EM, a former Air Medical Officer, to ask what it’s like to treat patients in the air.
Professor Parco Siu, Professor and Head of the Division of Kinesiology at #HKUSPH, was recently featured on HOY TV’s 《健康關注組 - 醫療新方向》 to discuss a study by him and his research team. Published in Nature Communications, the research found that “weekend warrior” brisk interval walking—just once a week—can significantly reduce body fat and improve cardiorespiratory fitness in adults with central obesity. The results are comparable to exercising three times a week.

“Enrichment Year is not just measured in credits, degrees, or publications... it is measured in perspective, and a quiet realisation of what it truly means to serve as a physician in a complex and interconnected world,” Prof @kendrickshih told students.

📊【Latest Research】A new study co-authored by #HKUSPH researchers analysed data from over 14,600 participants aged 50 to75 years to evaluate the trend of Hong Kong’s Colorectal Cancer Screening Programme (CRCSP) and its success in narrowing socioeconomic disparities.
🔍 Key Highlights:
✅ Screening uptake increased across the board (fecal test: 19.9% ➡️ 27.2%, colonoscopy: 17.7% ➡️ 27.3%)
✅ Socioeconomic disparities narrowed significantly
✅ Overall rates remain low, and gaps persist among younger demographics (aged 50–59), single households, individuals with lower income or less-educated, and public housing residents.
These findings suggest that the population-wide availability of the screening programme was associated with an increased overall uptake and narrowed disparities, but targeted efforts are needed for certain socioeconomic groups.
