Before she was outfitting Hollywood legends, Marci Rodgers (BBA ’05) was a marketing student on The Yard, refining the courage, tenacity, and creative nerve that would take her to the top of the entertainment industry.
Now, the Howard alumna is the visionary costume designer behind Lionsgate’s record-breaking blockbuster, Michael—meaning the wardrobe of the highest-grossing biopic of all time has Howard University DNA stitched into every single seam.
From the signature crystallized glove to the legendary red leather "Thriller" jacket, Marci executed every look with absolute precision. She credits her unyielding work ethic to the foundation laid right here at HU, particularly the life-changing mentorship of the late Howard Fine Arts professor Reggie Ray. Marci’s journey proves once again that what is formed on The Yard changes the culture worldwide.

Congratulations to Bishop Robert P. Boxie, III on his historic ordination as the youngest bishop in the United States!
During his six years as Howard University’s Catholic chaplain, Bishop Boxie expanded student programming, mentored Bison through Alternative Spring Break, and championed the rich history of Black Catholicism. Now, he steps into the highest levels of leadership within the Archdiocese of Washington.
As he reflects on this monumental milestone, Bishop Boxie credits The Mecca for his journey: “I sent a message to our community at Howard: ‘You made your chaplain a bishop.’ And Holy Mother Church thanks you.”

There’s a reason it’s called The Yard.
It’s where culture moves, where confidence is felt before it’s spoken, and where every step carries legacy. The energy isn’t created here—it lives here.
Unmatched. Unmistakable. Unapologetically Howard.

The heartbeat of D.C. has always set the pulse at Howard University. We are celebrating the undeniable, deep-rooted connection between HU and Go-Go—the official music of Washington, D.C. From the yard to the classroom, Howard has always been a cultural pillar where this distinct percussive sound is cultivated, protected, and archived.
From the late entertainment lawyer John Mercer (B.A. ’70, J.D. ’73)—who helped bring E.U.’s go-go music to School Daze—to jazz/go-go fusionist Elijah Jamal Balbed (’08), the Bison impact is generational.
We don't just listen to the culture. We preserve it.

Artificial Intelligence is changing how we work, learn, and create — but understanding how to use it practically shouldn't feel out of reach.
The Howard University College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) is closing that gap with its innovative "AI Tinkery" workshop series. Led by innovative faculty like assistant professor of computer science Howard Prioleau, the series moves past theoretical lectures to give participants real, hands-on experience building and interacting with AI models.
